THREE RIVERS DISTRICT December 18, 2014 Present: Aaron Tews, Kip Brannon, Amanda Moore, Greg Moore, Robert Smith, Mark Lundgren, Paul Jordan, Marilyn Sessions, Michael Rowland, Debbie Tews, Jon Ryan, Jack Hair, David Bivins, Rich Gibbs. Following a brief invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a welcome, Jon Ryan presented a training feature on the District Training Committee. Aaron Tews, District Commissioner, reported on the units in the district. Kip Brannon is involved with starting a Venture crew in the Warrior area. Aaron encourages everyone to make nominations for District Award of Merit and Outstanding Scouters Awards. Forms for Leader Knots also need to be turned in. Robert Smith, District Director, reported that this year's school night recruiting was an improvement over last year. Units are currently working on recharter. Journey to Excellence forms should be submitted to unit commissioners along with recharter papers. If a unit has already turned in their recharter papers, they can still submit their Journey to Excellence form. Jon Ryan reported on day camp planning. Council planning meetings are being held. Three Rivers Twilight Camp will be held June 8-12 at the Old Rock Church in Pinson. Kip Brannon, camping chairman, reported that there will be no spring camporee. The committee is planning a Cub-o-ree on March 21. Details will be forthcoming. The Boy Scout Zombie survival weekend will be held Feb. 20-22. Registration is now open and more information is available on the district website. Information on the Duty to God event at Camp McDowell is available on the district website. The OA Spring Pow-Wow will be held March 6-8. Robert Smith reported that the Friends of Scouting campaign is off to a good start. The Mayor's breakfast in Pell City is scheduled for February 26. The date for the Trussville breakfast has not been confirmed. The speaker for those events will be Noah Galloway. The American Values Luncheon will be held March 19 with Gus Malzahn as the speaker. Several Auburn players are also scheduled to attend. Scout card sales will kickoff next month. Training events scheduled are Multi-district training January 31; OWLS March 20-22 at Camp Jack Wright; University of Scouting, March 14 at Wallace State in Hanceville (recognition banquet that evening) and National Youth Leadership Training at Camp Comer on January 16-18 and February 13-15. Merit Badge day is scheduled for February 7 and registration is currently open. There is a list of merit badge counselors on the district website. Eagle candidates can contact any of the three chairmen: Dale Abercrombie, David Bivins, or Kin Lum. Carl Williams will be serving as Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner. There is a need for someone to head up the Boy Scout Roundtable. Robert is working on the recharter process for the district committee. Merit badge counselors need to be sure they are registered and are up to date with Youth Protection Training. THE JANUARY ROUNDTABLE WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 8.
