Supplies
• IE: bike helmet, Bug Spray, Umbrella, Sunscreen
 In our story today, we're going to hear about a
very large giant and a boy with some very
small rocks.
 The giant wears shiny metal armor to protect
himself.
 I've brought some things we use for protection
today. Invite kids to discuss how each item
can be used for protection as you remove it from
the bag or box.

All of these things help keep us safe, and we're
going to hear how someone is kept safe during
our story today.

Game: King Saul, May I?
Gather kids in a large circle in an open area of the room.
Let's play a game about King Saul in our story. Re- 
member that King Saul was in charge of the Israelite army. Goliath wanted to fight King Saul, and
David wanted to protect King Saul.
Choose one kid to start as King Saul in the middle of
the circle.



We'll go around the circle. Each person will say,
"King Saul, may I take some steps?"
King Saul will say, "Yes, you may take [number]
[either Giant Goliath or Tiny David] steps."
Then you will take that many steps toward King
Saul.


We'll play until someone can touch King Saul.
When you think you are close enough, say "I can
count on God" and then tag King Saul.
The first person to reach King Saul becomes the new
king.
For example: Maggie is in
the middle as King Saul.
Jared says, "King Saul,
may I take some steps?"
Maggie replies, "Yes, Jared, you may take three Giant Goliath steps." Jared
takes three giant steps toward the middle of the circle, and then the next kid
takes a turn.
Prayer:
Let's say a small-to-big prayer. Watch me.
Dear God,
I am very small. Whisper and
crouch down.
With your help, Get a little louder
and a littler bigger.
I can do BIG things Use a loud
voice and make your body big.
Amen! (repeat if you want)
Bible Story: Read from the Spark Bible (10-15 min)
 Take out your Spark Story Bible and open to David and Goliath on
pages 130–135.
 Read the story out loud and point to the corresponding pictures.
Look for Squiggles the caterpillar in each picture. Ask kids what they
think Squiggles is feeling or doing. Encourage them to make a face
like Squiggles.
 Ask the following questions, allowing time for kids to answer.
 In our story today, who was the big, big man? (Goliath)
 Who was the small boy? (David)
 I wonder what it feels like to be small? (scary, small, etc.)
 David knew that God had protected him from wolves and bears,
and trusted God would protect him from Goliath.
 God protects us, too. Like David, we can count on God to be
with us, no matter what happens.
