About University
Saurashtra University, established on 23rd May, 1967, is situated in Rajkot city of the
Saurashtra region of Gujarat State. The campus of the university is spread over 363 acres
of land. The jurisdiction of the university includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar,
Rajkot, Surendranagar districts. It has 29 post Graduate Departments on its campus and
298 affiliated colleges to cater growing needs of higher education. The Saurashtra
University took the initiative to implement choice based credit system within the state of
Gujarat for the first time. Now we have choice based credit system (CBCS) both for UG and
PG for all the faculties.
The NAAC has reaccredited the university as Grade ‘A’ with the CGPA 3.05 which is valid up
to march 2019.The university officers a range of total of 238 programmers comprising 39 UG,
32PG, 14 M. Phil., 35 Ph.D.,20 PG Diploma, 63 Diploma, 21 Certificate and 14 other
miscellaneous programmes. The university has undergone good number of National and
International collaborations in research and teaching e.g. Griffith University, Australia and
California State University, Long Beach (USA), particularly to encourage students and teachers
exchange program. Through its career counseling and development Centre (CCDC) and
institution Industry Interaction cell (IIIC), the issues of placement and career guidance is well
taken care of. International Accreditation Organization (IAO) has accredited the Saurashtra
University in 2013.National Facility for Drug Discovery (NFDA) UGC granted DSA and SAP
status to Dept. of Bios-Science (DSA and Center for Excellence, Dept. of Physics(DSA and
center for Excellence)

Pharmacy(SAP DRS-1) FIST status to Dept of Bio-science, Dept of Physics, Dept of Chemistry
and affiliation with various national international organization
About Department:
The Post graduate Department of Sociology was established as a center in 1967. P. G. Center
was raised as fulltime department in 1977, department vision is, “TOWARDS EXCELLENCE”,
and Mission is “TO CREATE KNOWLEDGE AND FACILITATESTUDENTS TO CONDUCT RES
EARCH ANDCONTRIBUTETO THE SOCIETY”.
Our Department focus on teaching, research and extension activities towards coastal
environment and community issues of Saurashtra region , organized international, national
seminar, workshop and training programmes and to promote student research activities
especially on community issues and marine environment. Every year department conduct
research project on various themes related to Research scholars (Ph.D.-12, M. Phil.-14) has
also worked on various coastal communities and environmental issues.
About Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC)
Gujarat is the only State in the country to have an Ecology Commission. Identifying the need of
having a comprehensive policy, covering all aspects of pollution control, environmental upgradation and improved ecological management, the Government of Gujarat created Gujarat
Ecology Commission vide Forest and Environment department resolution No.
ENV/1090/GOI/122/P dated 29th October, 1992.
The Commission views sustainable development as an ongoing cumulative process rather than
an end product. Therefore, it implements action oriented projects for environment management
and development; wherein links are established with different Government departments,
scientists, experts in various disciplines, voluntary agencies and industries to work together.
GEC forges partnerships with the best of academia for its projects through assignments and
internships. Expert faculties and students are involved to bring innovativeness in project
implementation.
About Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP)
The Integrated coastal Zone Management (ICZM) project stresses upon the use of an
integrated approach in all aspects of the coastal zone in an attempt to achieve sustainability. In
India the ICZM project is being implemented on a pilot basis by the Ministry of Environment &
Forests, Government of India, with assistance from the World Bank. The project, with a duration
of five years [2010 to 2015] is being implemented in three states; Gujarat, Odisha and West
Bengal.
GEC is the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) for World Bank aided ICZM Project being
implemented in Gujarat. It is implementing pilot investment activities in the Gulf of Kachchh, in
coordination with different agencies namely GEER Foundation, Gujarat Pollution Control Board,
Marine National Park, Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, Kachchha Forest Circle, Gujarat
Ecology Commission and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited. The objective of ICZMP is to
build the capacity of the State for the coastal zone management in an integrated way. Under
this project GEC also works in the 160 coastal villages of Gulf of Kachchha for socio-economic
development and livelihood enhancement of the coastal communities.
About seminar:
The state of Gujarat has the longest coastline in India – 1600 Km. of a coastline along the
Arabian Sea connecting India to the Middle East, Europe and beyond. Along this massive
coastline reside more than 60 Lakh Gujaratis in 13 districts. Gujarat follows a multi dimensional
policy for Coastal Area development focusing on tourism, energy, port development, commerce
and trade, social development and environment.

An abstract of 250 words with one and half line spacing in English & Hindi Language (For
English Language MS Word in TNR, font size 12) (for Hindi language in SARAL fonts, Font size
12) should be submitted via e-mail to the Convener before last date. Early submission of
the paper abstract (s) is highly encouraged for smooth functioning of the seminar. Abstract must
provide information on the description of topic, theoretical focus, objectives, study area, data
and research methods, expected findings and significance. Submission of the full length of
paper neatly typed in MS Word in A4 size with one and a half line spacing in TNR(English)
Papers will be selected through peer reviewing process and will be considered for publication
after the seminar is successfully over.

station and airport is about 5 to 7 km., taxi, auto rickshaw and city buses are available up to
University.
