SEASON’S GREETINGS from Miss Adams’s First Grade Class Dear Families, Now that we are a few weeks into 2nd quarter, your child’s school supplies may be dwindling. Please check with your child to see if they need new school supplies. Many students need new dry-erase markers and crayons. Also, please encourage your child to read at home. I send home a few “decodeable” books a week for fluency practice but, they should also be trying to read other books as well. After they read, ask them questions such as: Who were the characters? What was the setting? What was the problem in the story? How was it solved? Tell me the beginning, middle, and end of the story. What kind of character was ______? At this point of first grade, we are focusing more on comprehension, and not just reading the words. I want to thank all of you for being so supportive of me and the class!
