Electric crematorium at Sambalpur Raj Ghat
PBD BUREAU
SAMBALPUR, DEC 22
THE prominent cremation
ground of Sambalpur city, Raj
Ghat will soon get an electric
crematorium and several other
developmental works will also
be carried out at this Ghat
which is located along the
River Mahanadi, informed
municipality sources.
Rs 1 cr has been sanctioned
by the Mahanadi Coalfields
Limited (MCL) for the works.
The electric crematorium will
be installed to resolve the
problems, which occur due to
scarcity of firewood and bad
weather during the cremation,
added sources.
“The district collector
Balwant Singh had convened a
meeting with people from the
several walks of life regarding
the electric crematorium and
the
other
developmental
works of the Raj Ghat recently,”
said
Engineer
of
Sambalpur Municipality B
Padhee.
Suggestions from the people of the city have also been
sought for the development of
Raj Ghat, he added. The electric crematorium will check
pollution and give people an
alternate and viable option to
cremate. Electric crematoriums are being used at several
places now and though people
will be apprehensive in the
beginning, after seeing the
benefits, they will certainly
adopt it, said a local resident,
Dev Priyadarshi.
Apart from the installation
of the electric crematorium,
several other developmental
works will also take place in
the Raj Ghat and we target to
complete all the works within
4 to 5 months, added Padhee
stating further that construction of administrative building, firewood godown, concrete platform boundary wall
and lawn will be undertaken.
Moreover, the bathroom of the
Raj Ghat will also be renovated, said Padhee.
“Around 40 to 50 lakh will
be spent on the installation of
the electric crematorium.
Around 28 lakh will be spent
on the civil work,” added
Padhee
A decision has also been
taken to run the Raj Ghat on
Public Private Partnership (PPP)

organisation will be engaged to
run and manage the Raj Ghat
after electric crematorium is
installed and all the other developmental works of the Raj Ghat
are completed,” said he.
