Share the Fun Talent Show Held on December 17th
Five different talent acts entertained the school on Wednesday
afternoon in our annual Share the Fun contest. Niki Burkhart
got things started with her vocal performance “By the Grace of
God”. An instrumental performance of “Frosty’ and “We Wish
You a Merry Christmas” were next by Logan Morrison. Abby
Bowman’s vocal performance of “He Knows My Name” was the
third act. During the interlude, Julie Brown led the band in
“Jingle Bells” and Jolly Old St. Nick”. Sarah Martin led the
chorus in “Blue Ridge 12 Days of Christmas”. Our Bulldog
cheerleaders then performed a dance selection. Taylor Smith
resumed the competition with her vocal performance of “Safe
and Sound”. The last act was the trio of Branson Bolt, Kase
Leftwich and Andrew Willard with their vocal performance of
“Hillbilly Bone”. The Jr. Beta Induction ceremony was held and
Nadia Burnett, State Junior Beta Talent Champion sang “All I
Could Do Is Cry” while the judges tallied the score sheets.
Our first place was Taylor Smith. Second place went to Logan
Morrison and third place was the trio of Kase Leftwich, Branson
Bolt and Andrew Willard. These three acts will move on to the
county competition in February.
Special thanks to directors Mrs. Abby Barone, Mrs. Ella Pilson

1st Grade, 5th Grade Band, 5th/6th/7th Grade Chorus Perform at PTO
We had a spectacular night of Winter Wonderland entertainment provided by the students at our December PTO
Meeting. The first graders, under the direction of teachers Mrs. D. Dalton and Mrs. Shepherd, started us off
with their poem Snowman, Snowman What Do You See?, followed by their dance routine to Rock and Roll Snowman. Mrs. Sarah Martin, chorus teacher, and her chorus classes followed. The fifth graders sang Frosty the
Snowman and the sixth and seventh graders performed their own song, The Blue Ridge 12 Days of Christmas.
Mrs. Julie Brown and her fifth grade band students were next to perform with Jolly Old St. Nick and Jingle
Bells. Seventh grade student Logan Morrison finished the night with We Wish You a Merry Christmas. A special
thank you to the students and the directors for a delightful night of entertainment.

6th Grade Completes SODA Program
SODA taught us how to be
safe online, how to handle
peer pressure, and how we
should treat everyone equally.
Our SODA representatives from PCHS:
SODA helped us learn more
about our classmates and
the different things we do.
Nathan Wood, Will Hylton, Cole Helms,
Seth Reynolds, Dylan Harkey, M. C.
Stegall, Sapan Patel, Caeley Coleman,
Christian Ruscelloni, and Joseph Escobar.
SODA taught us
that we are all alike
in some way.
SODA taught us
to have confidence
in ourselves.
SODA taught us
ways to react to
cyberbullying.
Thanks Kase Leftwich, Jasmine Bowman and Alize Vagher for your sharing your thoughts about SODA!
3rd Grade “Trout in the Classroom” Progress
The trout eggs have arrived at
BRES! Mrs. Brim’s sons, Riley and
Andersen, are shown helping their
mom out on the project. Andersen

5th Graders Study Fractions
Brent Hawks is
getting ready to
work with manipulatives.
Alyssa Rupert and
others work in a
review station.
Students in fifth grade have been learning about fractions. In addition to coloring a fraction chart for their math facts
books, fraction bar manipulatives were
used in class to compare fractions. Math
stations were used for students to work
in small groups on various math activities.
Some stations related to fractions and
some were set up as review stations.
Students enjoyed working with their
peers in the different math stations.
Officer Bob’s Corner
Parents/Guardians and Students,
I want to start out by wishing you
all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year!
This month I would like to go over a
few reminders for when you visit the school
or pick up a child from school. Safety of
the children at BRES is a priority for myself
and the staff. We hope that you understand this.
Visitors are always welcome at
BRES. Whether you are eating lunch with a
student or volunteering in the classroom,
please come by the office to sign in and get
a visitor’s badge.
If you come to pick up a student and
the office staff or I do not recognize you,
we will ask for identification and verify that
you are listed as a person that can pick up
the child. No child will leave the school until this information is confirmed.
Thank you everyone for being so
supportive and caring of the children here at
BRES!
Officer Bob
