With the adoption of the International Classification of Diseases Tenth Revision Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS), and the approaching implementation date, there are major implications for every aspect of the health care industry, including the education of future health information management workforce; along with system-wide change, code transition, the education and training of coding staff and the confidence to tackle the new system. This one-day program will provide an entry level overview of ICD-10-PCS procedure coding fundamentals. Included will be the differences and basic changes between ICD-9-CM procedure codes (Volume 3) and ICD-10-PCS, as well as the purpose, use, and benefits of transitioning to ICD-10-PCS. The new structure and format for inpatient procedural coding using ICD-10-PCS Coding Conventions, Official Coding Guidelines and alphabetic index and tables will be examined.
