David A. McKenzie, CAE, Reimbursement Director for the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is the staff contact for the AMA RVS Update Committee (RUC) and the CPT Advisory Committee. In this capacity he attends both RUC and CPT meetings along with ACEP physician representatives to advocate on behalf of emergency medicine. He was part of the team that gained a 25 percent overall increase in RVUs for the 2007 RUC Five Year Review and an average of 25 percent increase in the observation codes in 2012. He is also a past recipient of the CPT award for Outstanding Staff Liaison. Mr. McKenzie is the staff liaison for both the national ACEP Reimbursement and Coding and Nomenclature Advisory Committees. He is a nationally known speaker on emergency medicine reimbursement and coding issues and has guided the content planning of the ACEP Reimbursement and Coding Courses. Along with ACEP committee members he is responsible for the educational material found on the ACEP web site. He is a frequent contributor to ACEP publications and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of ED Coding Alert.
