Spelling Bee – The Crossroads Spelling Bee will take place January 14 from 3:00-4:00. It is open to
all 7th and 8th grade students. Please contact Mrs. Vogel at [email protected] if you have any
questions.
Yearbooks – Time to order the yearbook at the $25 rate is running out. The deadline is December 31,
2014. On January 1, the price increases to $32. There are no accessories available after January 31,
2015 as we place our order at that time. It is a 48 page, all color, hard cover book. As coverage of our
students is extremely important, every child is guaranteed to be in the book 3 times. Most students are
in there 4-5 times. When all the extra books we order are gone, no more can be printed. Place your
order now to be guaranteed a book!
Yearbook Committee wants your pictures! If you have any pictures from Nancy Drew, Girl Detective,
please send them to Cindy Stevens at [email protected]
Baltimore / Washington DC Trip - This May, Crossroads Middle School is headed to Baltimore and
Washington D.C. We are looking for students who would like to go on the adventure! On this
excursion we will experience the Baltimore Aquarium, many different museums, visit Madame
Tussauds, take a tram ride through Arlington National Cemetery, have dinner at Medieval Times, and
tour Washington’s monuments, WWII Memorial and the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. We also
tour Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington, go to a Washington Nationals baseball game
and go to Six Flags Amusement Park! The cost of the entire trip is $800. All meals are included plus
hotels and a charter bus! To help defray the cost, fundraisers will take place for those who wish to
participate. An informational meeting will be held on October 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. See Mrs.
Liley or Mrs. Vogel if you have any questions.

HOMEWORK / ACCESS TO GRADES and ATTENDANCE

ParentVue is the parent communication portal to monitor grades, assignments, attendance and more;
we strongly encourage parents to use this tool. Parents who are new to the district will receive their
activation codes in the fall (date TBA). Otherwise, to request an activation code, please
email [email protected] and include your name and the student(s) name(s). Please allow up to 48
business hours to receive your activation code. (Note: students receive their own StudentVue
accounts)
After-school Help is available from September into May (specific dates TBA) on Tuesdays and
Thursdays with designated teachers. A 4:00 pm bus is available for students who live in-district;
students must remain with the teacher from 2:30 until 4:00 pm in order to be allowed on the bus. The
front office also has a list of NV-approved tutors whose services are available at a modest cost.
After-school Homework in the IMC - It’s always more fun to do stuff with your friends! And that
includes homework. Since you have to do it anyway why not come do it in the IMC on Tuesdays and
Thursdays after school! Honor Society students will be in the IMC after school on Tuesdays and
Thursdays starting October 14th to serve as study buddies for any students on a drop in basis. No
need to sign up ahead of time! This peer learning opportunity is open to anyone who’d like to work on
homework or study for a test with a small group after school. Honor society students are there to
facilitate, not necessarily act as an expert. Homework Helpers is about Working Together for
Everyone’s Success!
Online Homework - Classroom Connections (on http://nvps.net/crossroads) has weekly homework
posted at the beginning of each week. Check here to stay current on your student’s class work and for
homework assignments if he/she has missed school.
SCHOOL POLICY REMINDERS

Requirements for Participation in All Sports - All school-sponsored sports require a completed
MHAA sports physical form and a concussion form to be on file in the main office before try-outs and/or
practices begin (sorry, no exceptions; this is a state law). MHAA sports physical forms are available in
the main office or online at the Northview website (“Print a Sports Physical Form” link on main page).
Concussion forms are available in the main office. Students MUST be in school ALL DAY to either
practice or play a sport, unless they have a written medical excuse.
School Hours –
o Classes begin at 7:40 am (warning bell in at 7:35 am) - building opens at 7:00 am
o Dismissal is at 2:30 pm (10:55 am dismissal on ½ days)
Student Illness/Tardies – If you are calling in to report a student illness, please include both your and
the student’s name and the nature of the illness, as we need to submit weekly public health reports to
the state. Also, absences of more than 3 days require a doctor’s note. Tardies must also be called in
by a parent to be excused.
Policy on After-School Hours - All students must be picked up promptly at 2:30 unless they are
staying after to receive help from a teacher or unless they have practice AND will be with a coach after
school. Otherwise, students are expected to wait outside (weather permitting) for their rides to pick
them up or walk home or load the appropriate bus. This will be enforced all year long.
Building Access - The school is unlocked after school until 4:00 or later if there are athletics or
activities taking place. If you need to get into the building later than that, you may have to find a
custodian to unlock a door in order to get inside.
Please ONLY use the drop off area on the SIDE of the building in the morning and after school. The
front of the building is reserved SOLELY for buses in the morning and right after school.
•
Busing - If you live in the district, you should have received a bus pass from the bus garage. Please
contact the bus garage at 361-3480 if you have not yet received your bus pass. If you would like your
student to ride a bus home, other than one he/she is scheduled to ride, YOU must call the bus garage
directly and make arrangements ahead of time.
Please take the time to review all policies in the student planner with your child. We receive many questions
regarding coats, hats, accountable behavior, etc. If your child has lost their planner, a new one can be
purchased in the office for $5. The handbook is also available online on our website http://nvps.net/crossroads
Crossroads Website: http://nvps.net/crossroads Our main website has a variety of helpful links including all
the items on this page, a school calendar, and staff directory, just to name a few.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays!! See you in 2015!
