These amazing stories were told to the group by the restaurant’s owner, Cindy Pollard. Mrs. Pollard gave the history of The Orsini Flag. Corporal Millard Orsini was from a big family in Altamont. He and his 6 brothers all served and returned safely home to the USA after WWII, a great story in itself. Corporal Orsini was held prisoner in Japan for 39 months. While in captivity he secretly made an American flag out of a window shade. This flag was restored, and now hangs in a special case at The Homefront Café. The trip was very special and we plan to return.
