Residents Visit The Homefront Café
Eddy Hawthorne Ridge residents took a trip to The
Homefront Café and enjoyed a lovely meal, perused a large
collection of WWII memorabilia and learned about some
local heroes. These amazing stories were told to the group
by the restaurant’s owner, Cindy Pollard. Mrs. Pollard gave
the history of The Orsini Flag. Corporal Millard Orsini was
from a big family in Altamont. He and his 6 brothers all
served and returned safely home to the USA after WWII, a
great story in itself. Corporal Orsini was held prisoner in
Japan for 39 months. While in captivity he secretly made an
American flag out of a window shade. This flag was
restored, and now hangs in a special case at The Homefront
Café. The trip was very special and we plan to return.

Berkshire Hillsmen Christmas Concert
ILU resident, Frank Sblendido is a member of The
Berkshire Hillsmen, a performing accapella men's
chorus singing in the barbershop quartet style. The
concert centered on a grandfather telling his
grandson about Christmas using Christmas
ornaments. There was a lovely song that went along
with each ornament/short story. It was a marvelous
format and was a huge hit with our residents. The
Sterling Center was standing-room only. Thank you,
Frank, and the Berkshire Hillsmen.
ILU CHRISTMAS TREE

Mary, ALZ resident with her husband and daughter
Gingerbread House decorating, a favorite
with staff and residents was spectacular
this year. There were lots of new and
creative ideas and no shortage of candy.
Thank you to all who participated.
This year’s ALZ Holiday Party was one of the best on
record. The food and entertainment were outstanding, as
well as the table service provided to our residents and
families by staff from throughout the building. The event
was truly a group effort and everyone had fun.
Congratulations to Joan Taylor, winner
of the Café fruit basket raffle.
JJ is in need of book and magazine raffles for her ALZ
