I want to thank everyone who returned the Golf Activities Questionnaire the past month. I received several with some really great ideas. The Golf Committee will certainly take your suggestions seriously, and make several changes in our program I’m sure. I want to say congratulations to Sam Courtney, a long term member of our golf staff and the grandson of Jim and Sue Courtney. Sam recently received his Bachelor’s degree from University of Southern Indiana. I always have mix emotions when a young man like Sam is ready to move on in his life. Needless to say we wish him well, and know he will be successful in whatever he pursues, but will miss him tremendously as will our membership. Good luck Sam! Hopefully the weather will allow us some playing days the next couple of months. Check the Rolling Hills App for updates from Brad, and call the Golf Shop if frost delays might be an issue. Hope to see you soon, Brian Jones, PGA Congratulations to the poker player of the year Randy Beckort........and to Brad Harrison who won the end of the season Clash of the Champions Poker Tournament 500 Ladies’ 9-Hole Golf Association While writing this article, I’m watching another one of those good old Hallmark Christmas movies where you find “comfort”, the equivalent of that warm and fuzzy feeling you come to expect in this holiday season. However, at this time one year ago, I’ll have to admit that I was extremely nervous about what the year 2014 had in store for me since I was about to embark on my term as the ladies’ 9-hole President. I was also probably cursing my sister, Lisa Loehrlein, for encouraging me to take this position that was totally “Greek” to me after only learning to play golf one year prior! Little did I know that the journey awaiting me would be one of ups and downs in the most educational way possible (So, thank you, Lisa!). This wonderful group of ladies and I overcame major surgeries, illnesses, and just about everything else that was thrown in our direction. Regardless the size of the hurdle, everyone came together to get the job done. I have always tried to live by my favorite quote, “You can’t be disappointed in yourself if you go into everything totally prepared!” These ladies, ranging in age from 21 to 92, helped me to “always be prepared” AND had me laughing to the point of tears throughout the year… I wouldn’t trade a moment with them. Here’s to a great 2015!!! Bundle up, stay warm Don't worry if there's a flurry If we can be patient Perhaps Spring will hurry! KIDS CORNER Supplies: •1 package Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix •10 large marshmallows •Betty Crocker Cookie Icing (white and orange) • Decorating Icing Tubes in Black, Red, Green, Blue and Pink Mix cookie mix according to directions, or prepare your favorite cut out sugar cookie recipe, then just grab a golf ball sized chunk and squish it down until it’s about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Do not worry about the shape or how lumpy it is, the more misshapen the better! Bake according to recipe directions. Once the cookies are cool, load them up with the cookie icing and spread it around with the back of a spoon, let some dribble over the edge for a “puddle” look. Spray a microwave safe plate with cooking spray, and place marshmallows on the plate. Set the microwave for 30 seconds, but watch the marshmallows as they cook. Stop the microwave as soon as the marshmallows start to get puffy, do not let them double in size. Decorate with icing. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back of a photo then line up craft sticks over the back of the photo. Once all the sticks are aligned, turn over and apply another coat of Mod Podge to the front. Let it dry. Once dry, you can add a personal note on the back onto the craft sticks. (Happy Valentines Day! XOXO Let’s go to the Movies! Love, Mom) You will need a craft knife to carefully cut the photo in between each stick. ( A sharp knife is a must!) Add your puzzle to your bag and have fun!
