COLLECT FOR THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY
Almighty God, in Christ you make all things new: transform the poverty of our
nature by the riches of your grace, and in the renewal of our lives make known
your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and
reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
FOR YOUR PRAYERS
For the World: We pray for peace and reconciliation in Syria, Afghanistan and
South Sudan; peace in the Holy Land; for all victims of Ebola and those working to
fight the spread of the disease; for the families and colleagues of those killed at the
Charlie Hebdo offices and in the Jewish supermarket in Paris, and for the relief of
cultural and religious tensions.
For the Anglican Communion: Archbishop Justin Welby; Langtang (Nigeria); the
Dioceses of Oulu (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Finland), Soer-Hålogaland
(Church of Norway), London, Coventry, their Bishops and people.
For the Diocese: Bishop Tim Dakin and Suffragan Bishops Jonathan and David;
the Parish of Jersey St Clement and all their people; for the Week of Prayer
for Christian Unity and for the service to be held in the Cathedral tonight and
events in the city this week.
For our local hospitals and surgeries under intense pressure.
For the Deanery: St Matthew with St Paul, the Rev’d Peter Seal, the Rev’d
Neil Birkett and the Rev’d Mary Copping.
Local needs: The Nightshelter; for St Bede’s School and their new Headteacher
Sarah Duck; for all students with examinations this term.

ST BARTHOLOMEW: Please could volunteers fill in the new flower rota on
display behind the font in Church.
THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY runs from 18th-25th
January. On Wednesday 21st January a vigil will be held at St Swithun
Church from 6.00pm-9.00pm.
ST BARTHOLOMEW: Mid-week Holy Communion will now be held in the
Darch Room until the end of March.
ADVENT LUNCH: We have received a letter of thanks from Christian Aid for
our generous donation of £417 raised at the Advent Lunch. The UK Government
has pledged to match Christmas fundraising which will be spent on maternal
healthcare projects in Kenya and Malawi. Thanks to all who contributed.
THE NIGHTSHELTER: St Bartholomew Parish raised £624.75 during
Advent for the Nightshelter. Thanks to everyone for their generous support.
COFFEE MORNING: Last Wednesday’s coffee morning at St Bartholomew
raised £65 for parish funds. Thank you to all who contributed to this.
FOUND AT ST LAWRENCE: We have found a brooch by the vestry sink,
dark brown surrounded by dark bronze in the shape of an eye. If it is yours
please claim it from Beauman.
THE BENEDICTINE SPIRITUALITY GROUP meets again on Monday
19th January at 7.00pm in the Parish Room. Please contact Jeannette Holder at
[email protected] or 889374. All are welcome.
SPACE IN THE CITY: The new series of lectures “Something Understood”
begins on Wednesday 21st January at 12.30pm at the United Church. Canon
Jeremy Davies, Precentor Salisbury Cathedral 1985-2012, will address
approaches to prayer through words, music, the visual arts, and silence.
SPACE FOR PEACE: Choirs, schools and faith groups will gather to sing for
peace at Winchester Cathedral on Tuesday 27th January at 7.15pm.
Admission is free but there is a retiring collection.
BENEFICE MEETING: Cliff is holding an open meeting for all in the Benefice
on Saturday 31st January at 9.30am for 10.00am start at Hyde Parish Hall to
discuss future changes within the Deanery. All are welcome.
ST LAWRENCE: All help is welcome at the annual Clean and Polish on
Saturday 7th February from 10.00am-12.00pm. Coffee will be provided.
SERVICE OF PEACE, HEALING AND WHOLENESS: There will be
another service of peace, healing and wholeness on 8th February at 6.00pm at
St Lawrence Church. All are welcome.
LENT HOME GROUPS: You are warmly invited to join a group, particularly
if you have not done so before. Please take a form from Church for the 6
sessions beginning on 22nd February. Please return forms by 15th February.
