CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
FOR INDIVIDUAL POSTERS – ORAL AND/OR POSTERS
The Organizers invite psychologists, health care professionals, academics and researchers from all
fields of applications and backgrounds to submit symposia to the 5th ASEAN Regional Union of
Psychological Societies (ARUPS) Congress.
The DEADLINE for ABSTRACT submission is: 28 October 2014

Abstracts received after the deadline will not be accepted and will therefore not be considered
for the programme or for publication

Abstract should be submitted through email at [email protected]

All abstracts must be written in English

Initials and abbreviations which are not in common use should be avoided unless they are
essential

Remember to check spelling and grammar carefully. If accepted, your submitted abstract text
will be reproduced as submitted

Each author is allowed to submit a maximum of 2 abstracts

All selected abstracts will be published electronically and in abstract books

Submission of an abstract does not constitute registration for the congress. Submission of an
abstract implies the commitment that the presenting author will attend the meeting and the
expectation that financial resources to attend are available

By submitting an abstract:

You grant the Organizing Committee permission to publish the abstract in electronic format;

You grant a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, display and store the abstract
worldwide in all forms, formats and media now known or as developed in the future, including
print, electronic and digital forms. You will retain copyright of your abstract, in addition to the
moral rights you are entitled to as author of the abstract

You grant permission for the PDF of your presentation to be made available online to all
conference delegates following the congress
Abstract typing and format instructions:

Abstracts should follow the APA stylistics
Abstract title (Arial Unicode MS, 10pt font, Capital Letters and bold)
Title requirements are as follow:

Minimum characters: 50 characters

Maximum characters: 250 characters
Author information (Arial Unicode MS, 10pt font)




The submission steps are:

Abstract classification: specifying title, topic, preferred presentation (oral or poster presentation,
poster only) and award participation

Authors: specifying authors and their affiliation

Abstract content: tables and image are not allowed


Review process

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the scientific Program Committee and external reviewers

Acceptance or rejection of an abstract is based on the average grade awarded by the reviewers
(please see page 4 as an example of the grading criteria)

Although the Scientific Committee will make the final decision as to how the abstract will be
presented, a preference for oral presentation or poster can be indicated. Selected abstracts will
be presented as oral presentations or as posters

Abstracts will be reviewed based on topics and not by geography

Authors will be notified of the selection results by email by 22 December 2014 and will receive
all technical information and presentation instructions prior to the Congress
Entry Qualifications
Practioners and academics in the field of Psychology. Students pursuing Psychology courses in
colleges, polytechnics and universities may submit their papers for the student research award track
OR student track.

sending these documents, please indicate “ARUPS Abstract – Your Name – Title of your Abstract” on
the email subject.

Abstract Submission Date
Abstracts should be sent via email no later than 28 October 2014 2359hours (GMT+8).
Presentation Type
Abstracts may be submitted for one of the following formats:
Oral or Poster Presentation
Any abstract submitted under this option will be considered for either poster or an oral paper session.
You should indicate your Presentation Type preference when submitting your abstract. However the
decision on whether your abstract, if accepted, should be presented as Oral or Poster Presentation will
be at the sole discretion of the Abstract Review Committee.
Grading Criteria
The Abstract Review Committee will assess abstracts on the following criteria:
1. Clarity of background and hypothesis of research
2. Aptness of methods used, including the application of statistical tests
3. Alignment of results with the research hypothesis
4. Clarity and succinctness of discussion and conclusion
5. Impact of study on medical knowledge and clinical translation

Review
The abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee on their significance to psychology, scientific
quality and quality of writing. A panel of senior scientists will judge the abstracts using the following
criteria: (q) interest of subject area; (b) quality of research; and (c) quality of writing.
Notification
Authors will be informed about the selection by 22 December 2014.
