Noho Tahi Ako Tahi Together, We Live & Learn
Ngā mihi nui. Greetings everyone.
Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to Magnus Clarke
who started school for the very first time on
Monday. We welcome you to your first school,
Magnus. We know you will enjoy learning at
Mornington. Special welcome to Delilah Barker
who has moved to Dunedin with her family from
Wellington.
We hope you enjoy settling into
Dunedin and getting to know your community.
Assembly 2.15pm this Friday: Please join us on
Friday for assembly hosted by Rooms 3, 6,12
Otago Championship Cross Country: Last
Thursday our team of six runners represented our
school at the Otago Cross Country
Championships held at Kaikorai Valley College.
The team comprised of Rohan Leckie-Zaharic,
Phoenix Abbott, Lavinia Penese, Chloe Hurley,
Anna Finnie and Winston Ward. Racing in fresh
cool conditions on a heavy track our runners
acquitted themselves well. Congratulations to:
Winston Ward who took first place in the Year 6
boys race and Lavinia Penese came fourth in the
Yr 5 girls event.

Senior Team T-Shirt Night: This week the Senior
Team are concluding their
inquiry into the design
process with a Tee Shirt
Design Presentation
Evening tomorrow,
Thursday September 11, at
6.30pm in the School Hall.
Come along and check out
the designs and vote for
your favourite. The tee shirt
with the most votes will be
printed and each child in the
Senior Team will receive one.
Kapahaka: Next Thursday September 18 our 60
strong kapahaka group will be performing on
stage at the Māori & Pacific Island Festival at the
Edgar Centre. We hope all whānau and friends
will come along and support our group as they
perform on stage. We have been given an
approximate time of 1pm. It pays to get there
earlier as the doors are shut during performances
and the programme of events is subject to
changes on the day. Good luck to Miss Lawless
and the children. Kia kaha! Kia manawanui!
Dunedin Marathon Challenge: The countdown
is on for the Marathon
Challenge this Sunday.
We have been clocking
up the kilometres
everyday to be sure
that our runners
entering the event at
the weekend can finish
their 42km journey.
Congratulations to
Jasmine Day who was
the lucky winner of a new pair of sports shoes.

Negotiated Learning: In Room 3 Mr Tucker has
begun using negotiated learning to enable
children to choose their learning pathways to
achieve agreed learning goals. This week
Michael Crosson completed his project on the
“Fall of France”. This grew out of learning around
a novel called “This Land We Call Home” by
Alison Lohans. Michael enjoyed negotiating his
learning, as the topic was one he was interested
in. Being able to set his learning goals added to
the motivation. Michael says the best thing about
this learning was researching the information and
presenting it in his own words. The hardest thing
was to meet the deadline. Great job, Michael.
