PREVIOUS COUNCIL CONSIDERATION: Council Minute 18.1 of 8 September 2014 approved the plan to be taken out for community consultation prior to final determination by the Council. RECOMMENDATION: Pursuant to section 66 of the Local Government Act 1993 Council adopt the City of Launceston Strategic Plan 2014-2024 (Doc number: 3329552). Mr M Tidey (Director Corporate Services) and Mr J Davis (Manager Corporate Strategy) were in attendance to answer questions from the Committee in relation to Agenda Items 4.1 - 4.2 inclusive. PREVIOUS COUNCIL CONSIDERATION: N/A RECOMMENDATION: That the Strategic Planning and Policy Committee discuss nominations for the Council appointments to internal and external committees in preparation for the formal process which will take place at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 24 November 2014. Mr J Davis (Manager Corporate Strategy) clarified that this item would be put before the next Council meeting of 24 November 2014 for formal adoption with the addition of the following information: 1. Rod Sweetnam (Director Facilities Management) stated that this years' AGM will proceed. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.5 8 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Gibson - City of Launceston's Annual Report Alderman D C Gibson: With regard to the Annual Report it seems an unnecessary expense for it to be printed in full colour and bound particularly in this electronic age. Can this concern please be raised with the General Manager? Rod Sweetnam (Director Facilities Management) stated that he will inform Robert Dobrzynski (General Manager) of Alderman Gibson's concerns upon his return. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.6 9 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Gibson - Rubbish from food vans on High Street Alderman D C Gibson: With the expansion of food vans on High Street can Council please look into placing the responsibility of rubbish back onto the vendors? It was observed on Friday night and Saturday afternoon that the rubbish bins in the vicinity of the vans were overflowing. Harry Galea (Director Infrastructure Services) noted that rubbish in the vicinity of the food vendors is collected daily however this will be followed up. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.7 10 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Gibson - Movement of the Hall of Fame Alderman D C Gibson: What is the status of the movement of the Hall of Fame from Albert Hall? Richard Mulvaney (Director Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery) stated that graphic designers are currently working on re-design concepts for it to be moved to Inveresk (QVMAG). An SPPC item will be prepared and presented to Aldermen. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.8 11 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald McKendrick - Mile High Contracting Company, notice of works Alderman R L McKendrick: A letter box pamphlet has been received from the Mile High Contracting Company advertising road construction works in Norwood. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.9 12 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald McKendrick - Invitation to Mr Ron Sanderson, Brighton Council Alderman R L McKendrick: Can Council invite Mr Ron Sanderson from Brighton Council to come and speak regarding the how the Brighton rating system works? All Aldermen in attendance endorsed Alderman McKendrick's request. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.10 13 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Cox - City Bike Route sign on Cambridge St, West Launceston Alderman J G Cox: On the Corner of Cambridge Street, West Launceston, near the BP Service Station there is a sign that says "City" with a big arrow and "Bike Route" which leads you down a one way street into oncoming traffic. Can Mr Galea please follow this up. Harry Galea (Director Infrastructure Services) stated that he will follow this up and provide a response in the Alderman's Bulletin. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.11 14 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Alexander - Hawthorn Hawkes Merchandise Alderman D W Alexander: On Friday a complaint was received by a business in the Mall indicating that there was a stall held by the Hawthorn Football Club selling merchandise. Are permits required by stalls? Is this something Council should be looking at? Alderman Alexander to circulate email to Harry Galea (Director Infrastructure Services) for follow up. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.12 15 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald Dawkins - Ebola outbreak in West Africa Alderman A E Dawkins: It would be nice if we could touch base with the West African migrants who have settled in our community regarding the recent outbreaks of Ebola in their home country. Alderman Dawkins will follow up with the Migrant Resource Centre and revisit this issue with Council. LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES 5.13 16 Mon 17 November 2014 Ald McKenzie - 'Walk of Fame' Alderman D H McKenzie: A little while ago the suggestion of a 'Walk of Fame' was presented to Council. What is the status of this? Harry Galea (Director Infrastructure Services) stated that this initiative is listed as part of the City Heart Project.
