A PARISH PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we pray for ourselves and for each other in this parish of
Holy Trinity where we are called to serve, that more and more we may feel
our belonging together, our need for each other and the strength and joy that
comes from working and striving together in common purpose.
Lord, help us to encourage each other’s strengths and talents. Help us to be
there for each other committed to each other’s growth. Stir up within us a
spirit of generous service to enable our love for you and all your people to flood
our homes, our church and our community.
We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and
reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. AMEN
THOSE WHO HAVE ASKED FOR OUR PRAYERS
Ella, Kelvin, Kath, Margaret, Fiona, Noah, Joan, Margaret, Brian, Liz,
Sophie, Peter, Damien, Jack, Triana, Elspeth, Margaret, Guy and
Dennis. Thank you to all for prayers for Andrea. She is making
progress with recovery.
RECENT SERVICES
Thanks to all who contributed to our wonderful Advent and Christmas services.
Preparations for these services were extensive and so we thank our choir, who
have earned a rest during January, those who have participated in leading our
liturgies, our floral experts and all who have assisted with refreshments after
services. Warwick
ABM CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Envelopes are available for a Gender and Governance Initiative in Western
Zambia (more details are on the envelope).
OPEN GARDENS AUSTRALIA
January 10-11, 454 Windermere Road, Windermere, 10 am – 4.30 pm
The Hosfords are opening their diverse and productive two acre garden on the
Tamar River, featuring Tasmanian natives and fruit/vegies/berries/pinot noir
grapes. Plant sales and “home-grown” refreshments. Entry: $8.00.
All proceeds to the Christopher Strong Education Trust for teacher training in
Tanzania.
VALE - ‘TUP’ PINKARD
Our dear friend, Tup, died last Monday. Her funeral
service was yesterday at Finney’s Chapel. For some 24
years Tup has worshipped with us at the 10.30 am
Wednesday Eucharist. Tup’s bright and cheerful
manner, her sense of humour and her pikelets will be
missed by our Wednesday congregation.
Prior to worshipping with us at Holy Trinity, Tup
worshipped at St. Aiden’s East Launceston and St.
Stephen’s Church, Wynyard.
We pray for Greg and Kevin, Tup’s sons, all of her
family and for Valerie, Tup’s special friend and
member of our Wednesday Eucharist congregation.
EPIPHANY GIFTS
Would you please finalise your Epiphany Gift as soon as possible as we will be
wrapping the gifts during the week between Christmas and New Year. The gifts
will be placed in front of the altar at the services on Sunday, 4th January,
2015. Thank you for your continued support of this annual appeal.
WEEK DAY SERVICES DURING JANUARY 2015
All week day services and Sunday evening services, with the exception of the
1662 Eucharist on Wednesdays, will be suspended throughout January. All
Parish groups, including the Choir, will be in recess during January. The first
Wednesday Eucharist will be on Wednesday, 7th January, 2015.
CARE FREEZER
Following a recent Pastoral Partners meeting it was decided that an upright
freezer with drawers would be ideal in which to keep food fresh for distribution
to those who may be in need. An application was forwarded to Anglican Health
and Welfare for a grant to purchase a freezer. Following the successful
application we need a person to manage the food in the freezer. If you feel
that you could do this, please let Warwick know.
GARDEN STALL
The first Garden Stall will be held on Saturday 10th January
2015 starting at 8.30 am. Donations of fruit and vegetables
will be very welcome. Baked goods, jams, pickles, etc. also
sell well. For further details or to arrange pickup of goods
please see Dennis Mann.
CLEANING IN THE CHURCH
Our cleaner, Louise, is taking three weeks holiday from today. If you can assist
with any cleaning duties please fill in the roster in the narthex or see Warwick.
TASMANIAN ANGLICAN
The Christmas issue of Tasmanian Anglican is available. Rosie Stapleton (our
Junior Choir Co-ordinator) is pictured on Page 2 and the article regarding the
choir is on page 5. See also the details on page 4 “Holy Trinity – tribute”.
GRAPEVINE
Copies of the Christmas issue of “Grapevine” are available in the narthex. The
next issue will be due out by Easter 2015. If you would like to contribute
articles for this, please leave them in Lorraine’s pigeon hole in the narthex or
email them to – [email protected]
CHRISTMAS POSTAGE STAMPS
Please remember to save your stamps for the work of ABM. Ensure a border of
1cm is left around the stamps and place them in the box in the narthex.
ABM THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Simeon and Anna, two prophets who had given
their whole lives to God’s service, meet Mary and
Joseph when they bring Jesus to the temple to
present him to the Lord. This presentation was
according to the Jewish custom. Yet it is also very
special, because Luke has already told us that
the child being presented in this case is actually
the very Son of God. Simeon is allowed to see
God’s Messiah presented as a baby in the
temple, and in this way his life of service is connected to the larger story of
God’s action.
 Pray that you may see the many connections between your life and God’s
larger story.
 Pray for the work of the Anglican Alliance for Development, Relief and
Advocacy, giving thanks for the work they do to further God’s mission in
the world.

A NEW YEAR’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, please give me …
A few friends who understand me and remain my friends;
A work to do which has real value,
Without which the world would be poorer.
A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed;
An understanding heart;
A sense of humour;
Time for quiet, silent meditation;
A feeling of the presence of God;
The patience to wait for the coming of these things,
With the wisdom to recognize them when they come. Amen
