PRESS RELEASE Ecologically certified clothing “Made in Germany” Pfullingen, 10 September 2014 Engel’s latest collection of ecologically certified clothing for babies and children in soft, cosy organic merino wool is available in bright, cheerful colours. Long baby pants and leggings are in hibiscus, sunshine yellow and sapphire, while the matching baby bodies and shirts are in hibiscus/sunshine yellow or sapphire/ sunshine yellow stripes and have long or short sleeves. And to make sure the long baby pants are as comfortable as they are good-looking without “pinching”, they have a wide soft waistband and legs that can be turned up at first, and then turned down again as baby grows. Engel‘s new range of underwear and clothing for babies and small children is now also machine washable. This is thanks to a new finishing process that uses no harmful or toxic chemicals. For over 30 years, Engel has been making clothing in natural fibres to the highest ecological standards. The merino wool used for its underwear and clothing for babies and children is obtained from controlled organic livestock, and the entire production process, from wool to end product, has been awarded with the hallmark of quality NATUREXTIL IVN ZERTIFIZIERT BEST, the highest organic quality designation there is. Animal welfare is also of particular concern to Engel, which is why the soft merino wool that the company uses is obtained exclusively from Argentinian sheep farmers. Argentina observes the current EU Organic Farming Directive, and regularly checks the conditions in which the animals are kept and the shearings. Gabriele Kolompar, Engel‘s managing director, was able to check for herself that animals were being kept appropriately when she visited the companies in Argentina. Engel is also aware of its responsibility with regard to social standards. All of the companies involved in the production process are committed to complying with the given social requirements. These are based on the core standards of the ILO, the International Labour Organisation. All Engel clothing is made exclusively in Germany.
