Communication Support Board for the shops
What was the challenge?
The “Aeon style” is one of the greatest
shopping stores in Japan. The challenge
was to introduce the “Communication
Support Board” at the service counter of
all major shops in Japan to establish trusts
and securities between shops and their
customers.
The capability of these boards is estimated
not only for people who have hearing
disabilities but also for foreigners, seniors
and children.
based on ‘JIS T 0103: Design principles
of pictorial symbols for communication
support’.
Conversation starts by pointing at the pictorial symbols and ends by the same way
without relying on the specific language.

What was the effect?
Because of visit Japan promotion and new
tax-free shopping policy, foreign visitors
from Asian countries have been increasing
year after year. They enjoy daily necessaries shopping at supermarkets and department stores as well.
By using ‘Communication support board’ ,
we could stimulate their purchasing power
and also express Japanese OMOTENASHI
mind naturally.
What was the solution?
A three-piece board was designed to
establish Questions and Answers communication between customers and shops
using pictorial symbol with multi lingual
supplemental texts.
