Anthony Newsletter #2 Important Dates Oct 2 Meet the Teacher – 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Oct 3 Terry Fox Run at 1:30 p.m. Oct 6 Individual photo day Smile and DON’T wear green! Water Bottles Please! Portable classrooms don’t have sinks. To avoid fruit flies and other nasty surprises caused by juice boxes and pop cans, we ask students to bring water bottles to school. If they must bring juice boxes to school, they will have to take them home for recycling or put them in the trash! Student Planners All students from grades 2 to 7 are expected to use planners to help foster planning skills and to facilitate homeschool communication. (Some grade 1 students will also use planners. Please check with your child’s teacher.) Customized planners can be purchased at a cost of $5. School Supplies Please send school supplies with your children tomorrow. If you have and EduPac order, it will be distributed within the next two days. If the cost of school supplies is a financial hardship for your family, please let your child’s teacher know. J.T. Brown News Class Organization: We have had a much higher than usual number of students transferring in and out on a daily basis. Recognizing that our students and teachers are eager to start working in their own classes, we will be placing students into the following class groupings by Friday: Div. 1, Gr. 6/7 Div. 2, Gr. 6/7 Div. 3, Gr. 4/5 Div. 4, Gr. 4/5 Div. 5, Gr. 3/4 Div. 6, Gr. 2/3 Div. 7, Gr. 2/3 Div. 8, Gr. 1/2 Div. 9, Gr. 1/2 Div. 10, Gr. 1 Div. 11, K Div. 12, K Mrs. Keller Mrs. Gaines Ms. Loeppky Mr. Allison Mr. Stephens Ms. Burden Mrs. Cheng Mrs. Bridges Mr. Spence Mrs. Lowe & TBA Mrs. Dhaliwal Mrs. Riopel & Mrs. Throness Our Kindergarteners are a much smaller group then the past two years and we are pleased to put them into two classes of 17 students each. Where feasible (in terms of class size and class composition), most other students are placed in combined-grade classes to foster the sense of community and to promote collaborative learning. While all class placements are TENTATIVE at this time, our teachers have put a lot of thought into their class composition. They do not make such decisions lightly and they will not make further changes without very compelling educational reasons. I ask parents to honour our teachers’ professional judgement. Please do not ask for placement changes because your children want to be with their friends. Our teachers know who are friends who work well together and who are friends who distract each other in the classroom. Please allow your children a few days to settle into their new classes and to make new friends. If you still have concerns about your child’s placement by October 10, please don’t hesitate to discuss your concerns with your child’s teacher. J.T. BROWN ELEMENTARY Some Belated Goodbyes As the last school year ended very suddenly, we didn’t have the chance to announce the following staff departures: Mrs. Crnkovich, Mrs. Konyves, Mrs. Farrell, Mrs. McClean, Mrs. Pedersen, Mrs. Zeiler, Ms. Haliford, Ms Birak, Mrs. Lobo and Mrs. Hofmann. We want to thank them for their contribution to the school community and we wish them every success as they take on new assignments in other Surrey schools. On Maternity Leave Ms. Fraser gave birth to a beautiful little girl in mid July. Mrs.Wang gave birth to her second son in early September. Mrs. Smith is now on maternity leave (even though she couldn’t resist from helping out in her classroom these last few days) and is expecting her second child’s arrival within the next little while!
