We Are In!!!!! HILLCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Weekly Update September 26 to October 2, 2014 Combined Classes Our New Look We have undergone a lot of changes this week. For many years the planning department of the Surrey School District has been almost completely accurate in the projections in terms of numbers of students. This year seems to be one of surprises. We have come in lower than projections and Wednesday afternoon we lost a division. This necessitated a review of classes and reorganization. Teachers worked late yesterday to make up new class lists. Today children finally m et their classmates and the teacher they will be working and learning with for the year. It w as a glorious day. Below is how we are organized. This is not the case. In fact in m any cases the education is enhanced for both grade levels. Several years ago we consciously m ade the decision to combine all our grade 6 / 7 classes and this year we have added two 5 / 6 classes. Because of the success of these combined classes many schools are looking at intentionally organizing with combined classes. Please see “What About Split Classes” in the document section of our website. Our Staff A complete list of our staff can be found on our website. Yes, Mrs. Stovern is in three classes. The good news is that she is here at the same time as each of her job-‐share partners, thereby facilitating planning and communication. A Sad Farewell It is w ith a heavy heart that we say good-‐
bye to Mr. Richardson. We w ish him the best of luck at his new school. Be on the look out for two important notices coming home today – a permission form from us and a fund-‐ raiser notice from PAC!
