Meet our program aides
DECEMBER 2014
Greetings Boys & Girls Club of Walworth County
Friends and Families!
Thanks to the support of community members
like you, the Boys & Girls Club of Walworth County
is in the second year of our after-school program at
Phoenix Middle School In Delavan, currently
serving more than 70 members. New members are
welcome at any time, and we expect membership to
grow as fall school extracurricular activities end.
Your investment in the young people of our
community is greatly appreciated! Special thanks to
the Delavan-Darien School District and Phoenix
staff for the space and support.
As we move into the new year, we are moving
management of the club in a new direction to ensure
sustainability of the club to the
best benefit of the youth we
serve. We welcome Dawn
Heath as the club’s new
community outreach and
sustainability coordinator.
Dawn will focus on fundraising
and meeting with individuals,
organizations and businesses.
“I’m so very happy to be
part
of the Boys & Girls Club
Dawn Heath
of Walworth County, and am
really excited about working with our local team,
our youth members and the businesses in the area as
we come together to encourage our children to
become the leaders of tomorrow,” Dawn says.
“Building on my work as a volunteer in various
organizations (and being a mother of three active
bgcwalco.org
boys), I am excited to put my organizational skills to
growing our club. I look forward to meeting all of
the parents of our students, and am confident that
together we can make the Boys & Girls Club of
Walworth County an exceptional place.”
A program leader to plan and oversee club
programming will be hired soon.
Our 2015 goals are to raise enough funds to:
• Expand programs
• Add Wednesday-early release day
• Be open five days per week
• Offer programs during school breaks and
summer
• Expand to other schools and communities.
The Boys & Girls Club is funded primarily by
the gifts of individuals, businesses and organizations
in our community, and from proceeds from special
fundraising events, such as our annual golf outing.
The most important gift is the unrestricted
individual dollars received by community members
to sustain the club year after year.
Our Mission:
To enable all young people, especially
those who need us most, to reach their
full potential as productive, caring,
responsible citizens.
Location:
Phoenix Middle School
Delavan, WI

Four members, with program aide Frankie, helped out at our
third annual golf outing Sept. 18 at Hawk’s View Golf Club,
Lake Geneva. The fundraiser included a chopper drop raffle,
Packers tickets raffle, silent auction, and more.
Members helped pack
meals for malnourished
children around the world
during a Feed My Starving
Children event in Delavan
in October. Community
service is part of the
club’s character and
leadership programming.
Other staff-led programs
center on education and
career; health and life
skills; sports, fitness and
recreation; and the arts.

Meet
our
program
aides
Mentoring and managing middleschoolers, and planning activities to keep
their interest, takes a special kind of
person. We are lucky to have three such
people who work with the kids each
afternoon.
Frankie Hudson,
lead program aide,
has been with the
club since we
opened in September
2013. He also works
at US Cellular.!
“I love seeing the
kids improve,” he
says. “Once-shy kids
Frankie and friend
are now outgoing.
My mom always told me to dream big.!I
am trying to pass that along to the kids
here.”
Micah Heath, a June 2014
graduate of Delavan-Darien
High School, began working
with the club this fall. Micah
plans to attend the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee next year
to study radiology. Working with
the kids at the club “is a blast,”
he says.
Micah
Jacy Gomez also began with
the club this fall. She will
graduate in January, a semester
early, from DDHS. Her career
goal is to work with kids in some
way.!“I love working here,” she
says.!“This is a dream job.”
