Terre Haute South Vigo High School School Improvement Committee TO: All Members DATE: 20 March 2014 SUBJECT: School Improvement Committee (SIC) Meeting Minutes The committee meet at 3:30, 19 March in room 156. Present: Bill Allen, Nicole Amodeo, Gen Craft, Mindy Lewellyn, Jessica Markle, Trina McDonald, Brad Ogborn, Jeanine Reynolds, Beth Sagraves, Christina Wade, Sandy Woolard. We began by welcoming Jessica Markle who will be taking John Stephens’ duties as our math representative and BLP statistician. We reviewed the past minutes and approved them. Members were thanked again for their special efforts during our AdvancED accreditation visit. Today’s goal was to begin to look at our way forward and new improvement tasks. Our next faculty meeting with be 24 March Mrs. McDonald discussed preliminary results from a draft report concerning our school’s recent AdvancED accreditation visit. It indicated: We need to improve our link between school performance goals and faculty professional development. We also need to assist faculty members use a variety of data sources to assess student performance and adjust instruction. Our PDS grant funds must be used by the end August. We discussed maximizing voluntary and cracker barrel type professional development opportunities while capitalizing on in-house expert facilitators. Mr. Maul has a list of requested topics and possible presenters. We also discussed using PDS funds to develop an enhanced new faculty assimilation program for the beginning of next school year. Member were asked to begin collecting topics and information that should be included for new teachers to South HS (especially ask current new teachers). Our PDS Liaison, Dr. Woodlard, offered to work with Mrs. Mc Donald and help conduct some student performance data analysis. General Discussion. We agreed to conduct our Braves Literacy Program (BLP) posttest using “B” schedule that stays in the 2nd period on 16 April (on the schedule per Mr. Joseph). We discuss collecting and sharing ideas to continue to improve our school club program. We also talked about whether continue the BLP or discuss nay new goals for our school. We also need to begin thinking and asking our peers about our future improvement effort. Next planned meeting: 3:30, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 in room 156.
