!
For those of you who have taken this trip with us before, you know the immense value
tied to this trip for both the people we give hope to by building them houses, and for you
yourself. For those of you who have never come with us before, I guarantee this trip will
change your life as you go and serve others who are in desperate need. I’ve always
believed that Christians are called by God to impact the world. Often, I’ve watched &
waited for some huge, profound way to do this. Over the past five years and five Mexico
Mission trips I realized that it’s really about all of us just taking small steps & that all
those small steps together make a huge difference!!
!
Giving one family a home and clean water is just a drop in the bucket of world poverty,
but with lots of small steps huge change happens. over the past 5 years, Bow Valley
and youth from our sister church Christ Church of the Meadows in Edmonton will have
provided 16 families with homes! And we won’t have just given them homes, we give
them clean water too. We’re helping to change the world 1 family at a time.!
!
Some of you are thinking, heading to Mexico is no small step! It’s a huge step for some
of you, we know, but why not give it a whirl & see some of the world while changing it. !
!
Jesus called us to care for the poor and the oppressed. It’s too easy to sit in our warm
homes and never get out and actually do something about Jesus’ love in our lives.
Here’s a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus. !
!
If you don’t believe in Jesus the same way we do, it’s all good — anyone is welcome to
join us! We want to help make a lifetime of difference, one family at a time. We’d love to
have you along.!
!
One of the coolest things about all of this is it is not just the people we help that are
changed. Our lives are helped and healed and given meaning by serving others as well.!
!
As one aboriginal activist said: “If you have come to help me you are wasting your time. But, if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work
together.”!
!
The lives of the families we build houses for will never be the same after we serve with
them.!
!
Our lives will never be the same after we serve with them.!

BORDER CROSSING: Please order your passport
early. Passports cost approximately $89 CAN.
If you are under 18 years old, we will need your parents
to have a notarized letter saying you are permitted to
travel with us. Do not get this yet, as we may be able to
find a notary willing to do it for free for you.
!HEALTH ISSUES: The staff at Amor ministries in
Tijuana assured us that we do not need any special
vaccinations in order to work there. We do however
encourage you to get the Twinrex shot (Hep A & B) as
well as a Tetanus shot. It isn’t mandatory but we are
going to a foreign country and it is a good idea.
!If it is hot and sunny we must make sure we wear sun
block, a hat and drink lots of water. While in Mexico we
recommend that our team only drinks and eats the food and water that will be provided to us by
Camping Pro’s out of San Diego.
!If a situation demands medical treatment that we will go up into the States for treatment, since
we will be a short 20-60 minutes away. We as a team will always have a First Aid kit on hand.
!We will be acquiring group health insurance for out of country on behalf of everyone
participating in the trip who does not have it. If you have health insurance, we will need a copy
of it. Otherwise this is a small expense (apr. $15)
!WEATHER: The weather that time of year is highs of mid to high teens, and the lows are right
around 0°C over night.
!MONEY: The individual trip cost will be approximately $1600. This entire amount can be
fundraised. Initial registration is due Nov 2 ($200.00), and the balance is due on Jan 30, 2015.
(Overall cost may be subject to change, depending on the strength of the Canadian dollar and
some additional factors)
!While in Mexico & LA all major expenses are covered, that includes transportation, food &
lodging. However, snacks, souvenirs and recreational expenses are at your own expense. It is
recommended that you have American cash, traveler’s checks, and an
automated bankcard. Peso’s shouldn’t be necessary as American cash is
accepted most places.
!ACCOMMODATIONS: While in LA we will be staying in hotels (4 people
to a room – 2 queen beds). While in Mexico we will be staying in tents.
Sleeping bags and pillows required.
!DRIVING: All drivers must be 21 or older for insurance purposes. We will
require a valid driver’s license (check the expiration).

Short Term Service Standard of Conduct Agreement
!
As a group you should be committed to honoring, respecting and working in harmony with each group
member, treating one another as you wish to be treated. We are going as servants of Christ, and our
attitudes and actions are the most visible reflection of that. These standards of conduct are put in place so
that there are no questions regarding expected conduct while on a mission trip.
!
A CONTRACT ON PERSONAL CONDUCT
!
!
1. Go to serve by keeping every environment you are in clean. Clean up after yourself, during
travel, while at the worksite and at the campsite.
2. On the trip respect those in authority, as they will respect you. Having leaders helps ensure safety
and a smooth trip. You are expected to listen to team leaders. Disrespect towards anyone will not
be tolerated.
!
3. Go to experience accountability with each other. You are required to use the buddy system.
Never go off by yourself no matter what age. Always have at least one other person with you and
inform a leader of where you are going.
!
!
4. Go to experience community with one another. Do not leave the assigned or expected areas at
any time.
!
5. Go to experience God’s creation and the diversity of climate. Come prepared.
6. Go to be challenged. There will be some experiences that may be difficult for you whether
physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual. Allow these experiences to teach you and build
your character.
!
!
!
!
!!
7. Go to focus on the service and work set before you. This trip is about the people we desire to
serve. Sharing Christ’s love is an amazing gift that each of us can share.
8. No public displays of affection between dating couples. Stay out of tents of opposite gender at all
times. Do not use this trip as an opportunity to hook up, as it distracts from the purpose of the trip.
9. Dress appropriately for a cross cultural experience. What might be appropriate in Alberta is not
necessarily appropriate in other cultures.
10. Consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs will not be permitted on this trip regardless of age. We
also will not permit alcohol to be purchased and brought back with us.
I ______________________________ have read the above and I understand that I have agreed to keep
all points of the conduct agreement. If I fail to do so, I know that disciplinary actions will follow and may
even result in being sent home at my own expense, or the expense of my parent or guardian.

Financial Plan for Mexico Trip
Deposit: $200 with application by Oct. 27 (non-refundable)
Fundraising: Our desire is to raise all the funds for this trip. This takes work though!!!
We have a number of fundraisers planned & are hoping to have a team of people who
will steer our fundraising for this trip! It also never hurts to be creative in your own
personal fundraising!
Everyone is asked to participate in fundraisers - it builds team as well as makes us
money!
We will have group fundraisers as well as individual options. We will also send out
fundraising letters - this is usually a great way to make up a significant amount of the
cost! Family, friends, coworkers and church members are often excited and wanting to
support people going to make a difference in another part of the world!
Fundraising Possibilities:
For the group:
Coco-Brooks Pizza sales
Bottle drives
!
For individuals:
KidScenes child care at Corporate events
Company Donations
Fundraising Letters
Creative opportunities from student

Sponsorship Letters
Sponsorship Letters are an important part of our Mexico Mission
Trip Fundraising! We will continue to work hard on our other
fundraisers . . . BUT this is a great way to invite all kinds of other
people to be involved!!!
!
How to have success with sponsorship letters:
!
• Pray! It works, try it :)
• Make a up list of friends, family, acquaintances. Anyone you
think might be willing to support this trip. Just write down any
name you can think of! Even if you’re not sure you want to send
them a letter, write it down! The more, the merrier - one name
might help you think of another, so just write them down!
• Go through your list & start adding addresses. Decide who
you’ll invite to partner. Remember, if 35 people give you $50,
you’re done!
• Personalize your letter! People want to hear from you, not a
form letter! Make it your own. Add a hand written section, add a
photo, etc! It’ll help your success.
• Make sure you have your envelopes ready, add in the
addresses ones.
• Mail ‘em! If they don’t go in the mail, you won’t have much
success!!!
• We have added an online donation option. Read about it below,
it’s been added to the Sample Letter.
• If you are writing to people in the US, we
have the possibility of giving tax receipts
there also. Please e-mail for details.
!
Good Luck!!! If you need any help - paper,
envelopes, ideas, etc! Let me know!!!

Dear
!
Make Over: Home Building Edition, Mexico, 2015
!I am excitedRe:to letExtreme
you know I will be traveling with my Bow Valley Christian Church
youth group to Rosarito, Mexico Spring Break, 2015. This is not a vacation for me but
instead, my youth group and I will be building houses for families in need. It will be a real
chance to break a generational cycle of poverty for these families!
Details:
On Sunday, March 22, we will depart by air from Calgary, arriving Los Angeles, and then
will travel by bus to Rosarito, Mexico. Construction will begin the morning of Monday,
March 23, with the final construction complete on Friday, March 26. Upon completion,
we will have the pleasure of presenting the keys to our families! I am expecting this to
be a life changing experience not only for the families, but also for me. Following this
exciting day, we will travel back to Anaheim, California, and spend the next 3 days
debriefing and having some fun as a group. On Sunday, March 29 we will spend the day
as a group, attend a church worship service in the evening and then on Monday March
30, we will return Calgary.
!The total cost of my mission’s experience is approx. $1600 (includes transportation,
meals, accommodation, building supplies etc.)
!Plan of Action to Raise My Sponsorship:
In order to raise my sponsorship, my youth group and I will be working hard! We have
done child care for numerous organized events, we have sold Coco-Brooks Pizza, and
we will be doing bottle drives.
I am committed to raising my sponsorship by participating in the group sponsorship
raising activities, and am personally taking responsibility with raising the rest of the
required funds.
Would you consider supporting me financially and/or in prayer?
You would become a partner in making a difference in a family’s life.
How to Financially Support Me:
You can send money in to 5300 53 Ave NW Calgary, AB, T3A2G8. Please make your
cheque payable to Bow Valley Christian Church. Please don’t write my name anywhere
on the cheque. Please put a note/sticky note along with your donation in the envelope
indicating that your gift is for me for the Mexico Trip. Your donation will directly support
me and is income tax receiptable (all gifts over $10)
Also, you can donate online at www.bvccweb.ca. You will see a category called “online
giving”, click on “give now” and you will see an option to give to the Mexico Mission Trip.
In the comments area please specify that your gift is for me.

them, and if I don’t have the immediate answer, I will find the answer for you. My contact
