Sunlove Abode for Intellectually

Charity Begins at Home
SGCC Charity Project 2014
About the Beneficiaries
Sunlove Abode for Intellectually-Infirmed
Sunlove Abode for Intellectually-Infirmed (also known as Sunlove Home) located in Buangkok Green
Medical Park provides residential care to about 200 intellectually disabled individuals, regardless of
ethnicity, religion, social status and health. The patients range in age from 22 to 75 years old. The social
stigma related to the intellectually-infirmed has caused families to shun their loved ones.
The aim of the Home is to educate the public about various forms of mental illness and to eradicate the
misconception that mental patients are violent and cannot be restored to health. The Home offers
compassionate help in rehabilitative programmes, from daily supervision to psychotherapy, occupational
therapy, physiotherapy and medical treatment. Their objective is to reintegrate the patients back to their
homes and to society, restoring hope to the individual, building self-esteem and self worth. Sunlove also
provides home help services for the frail elderly such as meal delivery, housekeeping, and transport to
clinics. They are also the first charity in Singapore to offer groceries to the poor at wholesale prices at its
novel “Kedai Mobil”, literally meaning “mobile shop”.
Your contribution will go towards the day-to-day operating expenses of the centres and community
outreach programmes.
Bright Vision Hospital
Bright Vision Hospital (BVH) is a 318-bed community hospital located at Lorong Napiri offering
intermediate and long-term care services to about 1,200 new patients a year. The hospital provides a fully
integrated healthcare programme that serves the patients’ physical, psychological, spiritual and social wellbeing.
BVH provides inpatient services for sub-acute, rehabilitation, palliative and chronic sick patients. They also
run an outpatient rehabilitation centre for patients who have had strokes or medical conditions which
require an extended period of rehabilitation. The hospital also serves as training and education centre for
professionals and the public in community care for the elderly and infirmed.
Your donations will help to defray healthcare costs of needy patients, many of whom have already
exhausted their financial resources. BVH’s annual subsidies to needy patients amount to more than $2
million.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP)
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s mission is to serve the poor and needy with love, respect, justice, hope
and joy and to work to shape a more just and compassionate society. They reach out to all those in need,
regardless of faith, race or stature. Many mistakenly think poverty is extinct in modern day Singapore – this
is not quite true and the SSVP still plays an important role in caring for the needs of the poor and needy
here, supporting over 3,000 Friends-in-Need, which is an on-going initiative. SSVP volunteers conduct
door-to-door distributions of groceries on a project basis annually. SSVP also lends a hand through home
visits to provide companionship, financial assistance, bursaries for students and various other activities.
The NTUC Vouchers donated by SGCC members will be given to SSVP for the purchase of groceries to be
distributed to about 100 needy families living in 1 – 3 room flats in Serangoon, Hougang, Buangkok and
Lorong Ah Soo. Food items donated will also go to these beneficiaries.
