The Community Therapy Services (CTS) Inc. Board of Directors offers an annual scholarship at the University of
Manitoba in the School of Medical Rehabilitation in honour of Dr. Ron Bowie, former member and Chairperson of the
CTS Board of Directors and former Director of the School of Medical Rehabilitation. CTS is a private not for profit
agency that provides rehabilitation (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech language pathology) services in
Manitoba. The agency employs skilled professionals who provide treatment, consultation, and education to clients
and care givers in community, long-term care, ambulatory care and acute care settings. The agency delivers services in
partnership with numerous organizations in Manitoba both internal and external to the health sector. Each year, two
scholarships, valued at $750 each, will be offered; one to a graduate student in the Physical Therapy program and one
to a graduate student in the Occupational Therapy program.
Criteria:
1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in either the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program
or the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program offered by the School of Medical Rehabilitation at the University
of Manitoba;
2) has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5;
3) enrolls in the second and final year of study in the School of Medical Rehabilitation in either the MOT or the
MPT program;
4) demonstrates an interest in community practice, by way of an application outlining his/her
experiences in or future goals for community practice.
Applicants must submit their CV and a typed essay (12 pt. font, double-spaced) of a maximum 750 words addressing
the following:
1) an understanding of Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy in community practice in Manitoba;
2) a vision for community practice in Manitoba;
3) experiences in community practice (clinical, fieldwork or other);
4) future goals for community practice.
