CBT WITH HEART
A SEVEN DAY FOUNDATION TRAINING IN CBT
(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
FOR COUNSELLORS AND PSYCHOTHERAPISTS
ALREADY TRAINED WITHIN A NON-CBT MODALITY
To be held at
The Gateway Education and Arts Centre
Chester Street, Shrewsbury, SY1 1NB
Dr Adrian Hemmings C.Psychol UKCP
With all the current media and government focus on CBT it may seem to psychotherapists and
counsellors trained in other models that it is taking over the world!
Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at counsellors and psychotherapists who have an interest in extending the
range of their therapeutic knowledge and skills. It aims to teach relevant skills of CBT in a way
that respects the thinking and practice of other therapeutic orientations.
What will be covered?
We will cover the following topics: history and philosophy of CBT; research; the current situation
with IAPT; assessment; specific CBT skills; working with people who present with anxiety problems
such as generalised anxiety, phobias and obsessional compulsive problems. We will also explore
using CBT when working with people presenting with depression who have difficulties with
substance use, eating, and people with Medically Unexplained Symptoms. Above all we will
examine not only the differences but the similarities between CBT and other models of therapy
and examine ways of integrating CBT into current practice. Many non-CBT therapists are
already doing CBT without knowing it!
