reviews, disciplinaries, grievances, professional performance. A previous member of
UKSC. Currently Staff Side Chair. Clinically a sister in an Acute Medical Admission
Unit.

Disability athletics giving me insight into equality and diversity.
Nomination statement
I’ve been Lead Steward at my duel site Trust since 2004. During this time I’ve
represented members with many issues including disciplinary, capability, sickness,
grievance and contractual.
As Chair of Staff Side I negotiate policies, procedures and change management
situations for the whole Trust. One of my major achievements was to ensure nurses
would get the correct enhancements over Christmas periods when there are
substitute bank holidays.
2
I work clinically as a Ward Sister on AMU (the acute adult medical admission ward)
and therefore I’m in the privileged position of knowing how busy the hospital is, and
the issues arising.
I’ve previously been the West Midlands member of the UK Stewards Committee.
This has given me a wealth of knowledge into the workings of the RCN and enabled
me to meet people with senior roles increasing my network of contacts. During this
time I was also the Board Member holding the UKSC regional seat.
I’m a previous Chair of Shropshire Branch, I stood down as Chair to give way to
“new blood” but have remained as Treasurer to contribute my knowledge and
support our Chair. I attend the Local Learning events and am very encouraged to
see the attendance list growing at each event.
I’ve attended Congress every year from 2004 as a voting member, either for the
Branch or the UKSC.
I feel my previous experience will enable me to be an effective Board member and I
promise to be active ensuring 2-way communication between Branch & board.
