SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW
The WCU Choral Conducting Symposium is designed to sharpen podium gestures
and communication skills, enhance knowledge of repertoire, and deepen score
study and analysis techniques. It is designed for working conductors, in public
schools, churches, and community choirs. Conductors may participate in two
ways: as Conducting Participants, who will get ample podium time with master
teachers; or as Observers, who be engaged in all activities, but who will not
conduct.
MORNING SESSIONS
8:30 a.m.:
Registration and Coffee, Monday only
9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Repertory Session
Monday: Classical/Romantic, Tuesday: Baroque, Wednesday:
Renaissance, Thursday and Friday: Contemporary
10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.:Conducting Session
Using shorter works from that day’s repertory study
12:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.:Lunch
AFTERNOON SESSIONS
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Score study, analytical techniques
2:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Conducting Session: Mozart’s Requiem*
*Friday’s Mozart session will be with chamber orchestra
EVENING EVENTS
Wednesday Dinner – (not included with registration): informal Q & A with all
participants, hosts, and Guest Artists.
Friday Reception ­– 5:00 p.m.
COSTS
All participants must submit a non-refundable $100 deposit with registration.
The remainder is due on the first day.
Conducting Participant (limited to 12 people): $500
Observing Participant: $300
