About the Seminar
Cement industry is the backbone of infrastructure development of
the country. Indian Cement industry is next only to China in the world,
with installed capacity of over 300MT/year and expected to reach 500
MT/year by 2020. This is associated with growing challenges in the
context of saving material and energy resources as well as reducing
CO2 emissions. Ceramic and material technologies are going to play
a vital role in this multi- disciplinary area starting from selection of
cheaper and better raw materials to refractory/ ceramic liner for
energy efficient and extended plant life along with the new class of
cement materials. To discuss all these issues and to bring together
all the stake holders on one platform for technical interactions and
deliberations, Department of Ceramic & Cement Technology, HKES’s
PDA College of Engineering is organizing an International seminar on
”Frontiers of Ceramic & Material Technologies for Cement Industries”
in association with Indian Ceramic Society, Bangalore chapter.
Conference Topics
Topics of interest related to Ceramic, Refractories and Special
materials used in Cement industry and the latest trends in Cement
materials such as
• Recent trends in Cement manufacturing • Advances in Cement Materials • Machineries, kilns & Safety Engineering • Ceramic liners for Cement plants
• Refractory materials for Cement plants
• Ceramic coatings & Insulation materials
• High alumina cements, Geopolymers, Fly-ash cement
• Energy saving & Environmental protection

About the Institute
Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering is among one of
the premier institutions of the country, which is run by Hyderabad
Karnataka Educations Society (HKES). Late Sri Mahadeveppa
Rampure, the founder president of HKES established this institute in
1958 with three basic engineering courses. Presently this institute
has eleven undergraduate (UG) and ten Postgraduate (PG) courses
and 11 research centers. All the UG programs are accredited by NBA,
New Delhi. Since 2004, this institute is getting grants from TEQIP,
Govt. of India for the enhancement of infrastructure and quality of
education and also for the development of PG programs and initiation
of high-end research activities.
About the Department
Department of Ceramic and Cement Technology was started in the
year 1982 under the headship of renowned Professor in the field of
Ceramics, Late Dr. M.D Narasimhan who earlier was with MIT - USA
and BHU - Varanasi. This department was first of its kind in south
India and offers a well established and attractive course with high
success rate in students placement since inception. The department
has adopted Industry oriented course coverage supported by well
qualified faculty with higher education from IIT’s and IISc. Most of
the alumni are placed in reputed organizations in India and abroad.
Some of them have pursued higher studies in Tokyo institute of
Technology, Japan, Alfred, Illinois, Sheffield University in USA, etc.
From 2012, the department has been recognized as research center
by VTU and a new PG program on Materials Science & Technology
has commenced from the academic year 2014-15
About Indian Ceramic Society
Indian Ceramic Society (InCerS), a non-profit organization, which was
established in 1928 with the blessings and active support of Pandit
Madan Mohan Malaviya, of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi
is presently head quartered at Kolkata. The primary objective of
InCerS is to promote the advancement of ceramic science, arts and
technologies, by bringing into close contact those engaged in these
pursuits, publishing scientific and technical books and journals,
holding annual sessions, meetings, discussions, symposia and
exhibitions on the subjects of interest. Presently, InCerS has more
than 2000 members including foreign members and comprises a
wide variety of individuals and interest groups that include scientists,
engineers, researchers, manufacturers, plant personnel, educators,
students, marketing and sales professionals as well as others in
related material disciplines. Indian Ceramic Society, Bangalore
chapter (ICSBC) is one of the very active chapters and has won Best
Chapter award many times. ICSBC has been conducting theme based
seminars useful for Industry.
