GRCC - Auto Tech Special points of interest: ATSO Equipment Highlights The Automotive Technology Student Organization (ATSO) was created to increase student engagement and interaction. In addition to regular meetings and some field trips, the ATSO will manage the modification of two newly-purchased project vehicles, a 2014 Subaru BRZ and a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. The purchase of the BRZ was funded by the Tassell Wisner Bottrall Foundation. Automotive Technology students at GRCC are obtaining ASE Student Certifications . GRCC’s Automotive Technology program continues to maintain certification with the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation, NATEF This relatively new certification program provides industry testing experience, and it can be a student’s first step in earning credentials toward a career as an automotive service professional. Page 3 Volume 3, Issue 1 Equipment Highlights Snap-on Verus Pro Consulab EM140 Trainer The Auto Tech program now has 8 Snapon Verus Pro diagnostic systems, allowing for extensive hands-on practice. Snap-on TPMS3 Our ConsuLab EM-140 trainer has arrived! Students will learn about HVAC, Electronic Steering and Engine Controls on this GM ECOTEC 2.2L-based system. The TPMS3 offers the ability to test and diagnose sensor problems, in addition to programming replacement sensors. Instructional Approaches and Resources The automotive faculty members are continuously seeking ways to increase learning and provide valuable experience for our students. In addition to classroom learning and hands-on training, students in the program are learning to use electronic resources. GRCC’s students are being exposed to Shopkey5.com, the International Automotive Technician Network (IATN), and Identifix, in addition to a variety of technical resources provided by automotive manufacturers. grcc.edu/automotive GRCC - Auto Tech GRCC has offered automotive training for 40 years. The 18-week format allows new students to enter the program almost every month.
