PRESS INFORMATION
11. July 2014
Dr.-Ing. Dirk Landgrebe assumes Chair of Forming and Joining by Forming at the
Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) and will also head the Fraunhofer
Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU in Chemnitz
For many years now – even from back when Dr. Manfred Hirschvogel was the managing
partner – the Hirschvogel Automotive Group has had close ties to university research.
Primarily this cooperation is with academic institutes dealing with forging and steel material
technology. In several working groups at institutes and associations (the German Forging
Association IMU and the Steel Institute VDEh), Hirschvogel brings market demands to the
table in order to conduct joint, pre-competitive applied research for advancing forging and
steel technology. In addition, Hirschvogel regularly presents technological advances at
relevant conferences and symposia for forging and automotive engineering. The level of
networking between Hirschvogel and the world of research is thus very high.
Against this backdrop, it is not surprising when suitable people from Hirschvogel are also
approached to fill vacant professorships. This has happened as part of finding a candidate to
fill the Chair of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. E. h. Dr.-Ing. E. h. mult. Dr. h.c. Dr. h.c. Reimund
Neugebauer at the Chemnitz University of Technology. Associated with this professorship at
the university is the position as Head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and
Forming Technology IWU. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Landgrebe has accepted the professorship at the
newly created Chair of Forming and Joining by Forming at the University of Chemnitz in
association with heading the Fraunhofer Institute IWU. With this change in generation, a new
structure will be introduced at the Fraunhofer IWU.
Dr. Thomas Brücher, President and CSE at Hirschvogel Holding GmbH: “The departure of
Dr. Landgrebe from Hirschvogel, with his 15 years’ experience at the Hirschvogel Group, is
naturally highly regrettable. At the same time, his new position highlights our strong ties to

the world of research, which we will now take advantage of to an even greater extent with
this additional personal connection.”
Dr.-Ing. Dirk Landgrebe began working at Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH in 1999 as
Head of Research and Development. From 2002, he headed the production area for
constant-velocity shaft parts. From 2005 until 2010, Dr.-Ing. Dirk Landgrebe was General
Manager of Hirschvogel Automotive Components (Pinghu) Co., Ltd. in China. During this
time, he built up the plant from its founding until it reached sales of approx. 14 million euros
and a workforce of around 200 people. From 2010 until 2011, he was a member of the Board
of Directors at Hirschvogel Holding GmbH. Since 2012, he has been responsible for the area
of “Corporate Engineering” as a global central function for machine procurement and the
entire infrastructure of the Hirschvogel Automotive Group.
