Here at Belle Vue Boys’, we passionately believe in the value
of learning. A love of learning fills a young mans mind,
allowing him to become knowledgeable, inquisitive and
successful. A love of learning allows him to excel in all
aspects of his life, from the sports field to the boardroom.

To instil this into our students, we have a dedicated team of
highly-qualified teachers that demand the highest standards
from their pupils. They provide challenging yet exciting
lessons, supplemented by the latest technology that enable
each individual in their care to thrive.

Education in the classroom is matched by experiences
beyond the chalk face. Our students get the opportunity to
take part in a vast array of extra-curricular activities, from
building primary schools in the Gambia to ecological
investigations in the Yorkshire Dales. We are proud of the
care our students show to those in need. Every year, our
sixth form students organise, co-ordinate and run
fundraising activities that have donated thousands of
pounds to local, national and international charities.
Our school doors are open for you to visit. A prefect will be
on hand to demonstrate the pride they take in their school.
As our blueprint comes together for our new buildings, we
look forward to moving into our large, dedicated sixth form
study and relaxation space.

The Level 1 and 2 options
Our Level1 and Level 2 options are facilitators, either onto higher level courses or into the
workplace. We offer a vocationally-led curriculum with the opportunity for all students to
improve their literacy and numeracy skills.

The support available
Starting Sixth form, especially in a new school, can be daunting as well as exciting. The support
each student receives from our team has been praised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
Each successful applicant will be placed in a form with students studying similar courses. Our
form tutors are specially selected for their understanding of the demand of the post-16
curriculum and challenges faced by young men. They have received specialised training in
UCAS , meaning our students’ applications are exemplary. Every university applicant received
offers on courses of their choice in the last academic year. Our tutors are supported by our
student manager, Mr McAteer, the Head of Careers, Mrs Pickerden and the Head of Sixth
Form, Mrs Mehmi.
Sixth form can be financially challenging, with extra costs involved in buying textbooks and
resources. Certain students will qualify for a bursary of up to £1200 a year (in 2013.14). Further
details about this are available from the student manager.
What you can expect
The curriculum
Sixth form students enjoy extra freedoms, both in their studies and spare time. However, with
this freedom comes greater responsibility. Sixth Form students begin challenging courses. Here
at Belle Vue Boys’, you will receive excellent tuition and support. Our results speak for
themselves. This year, every student studying science and ICT gained the top grades. One third of
students on the Urdu course gained an A* grade. 80% of our cohort went on to study law or
medically-related courses at university.
We offer a broad, challenging curriculum for all students, with progression onto their next
steps no matter where they are starting, from an engineering apprenticeship to studying
medicine at the most prestigious universities in the world.
All the courses you choose will require extra independent study. We have a range of places
across the school where students can work quietly, both on their own or with friends.
There are two newly constructed study spaces in Science and English, alongside the longstanding
ICT rooms and Design workrooms. The well-stocked Learning Resource Centre is most students
first port of call, with computers and quiet study rooms. There is a vast array of post-16 textbooks
to use together with access to the careers service and post-16 managers.
Alongside hard work come strong friendships. We have relaxation spaces that are reserved
purely for our Sixth form students. There are comfortable leather chairs in the cafeteria
accessible throughout the day. To enhance this further, our prefects have designed and are
building a sixth form common room.
Our suite of qualifications encompasses options for all levels of learner. The range of different
subjects and assessment styles means we can offer every student a personalised programme
of study.
Students achieving 5A*- C at GCSE, including English and Maths will begin a set of level 3
courses. Some students, for many reasons, miss out on achieving five A*-C including English
and Maths. We offer a range of interesting courses that can lead onto further study or straight
into a career. Staff will be able to provide advice on the most appropriate options for you.
