NDTA Okinawa Chapter January 2014 Monthly Meeting: APL Ship Tours This month’s general membership tour is at the Aja commercial port on one of the APL (American President Lines) ships. The normal schedule would be on Tuesday’s, but minor delays frequently occur due to weather or port operations at other locations. Normal time is 0930 at the port. Only 5 personnel are allowed per week, but the POC has stated we can come on for the next several months and I encourage you to do so and make the time. Therefore, please get a group together of 5 and provide the information to myself and or Ray Uyematsu (information below). All weeks are open from 27 Jan on. Once you have your group and information, select a week you desire for the tour and we’ll make the coordination. Tour Requirements Please send the access information below for gate security and ship boarding: 1. Names 2. DOB 3. Work address/unit name 4. Vehicle numbers (NOTE: No tactical vehicles) 5. Hard Hats required 6. Must wear civilian clothes Ray can meet you and your party at the main gate at NICTI, Naha International Container Terminal around 09:30. Directions can be found online or use the following: 1. Go south on 58, past Kinser and stay in the very left lane. 2. Go past the first underpass intersection after Kinser and when you get to the second big intersection by the overpass, turn right and go under the bridge and head west. 3. Go straight all the way, you'll see a revolving tower on the left at a big intersection, go straight. 4. Go straight past the tower, and you'll see a big red brick building on the right, that's the Customs and JCG building, keep going straight. 5. You'll come to road construction detour site, turn left into the port and head straight, you should be able to see the big yellow gantry cranes off in the distance on the right. Head in the direction of the gantry cranes, the terminal is there.
