Kenny’s
Fellowship
Fellowship is a very important part of what FCCM is about. We love to get together and hang out. That
is important because it will build relationships that help in our walk with Jesus. I want you to take part in
two events that are coming up that will help build fellowship.
The first is April 30 and it is the Senior Luncheon. The Senior Luncheon is an event that we will be doing
4 times a year. It will be a time for anyone 55 and older to come and have lunch and enjoy a guest speaker. The fun starts at 11:30 am with lunch and the guest speaker will be Mark Black.
The second event is Men’s Challenge at Elkhorn Valley. This year it is entitled “Impact.” There is golf
scramble beginning at 11:00 am at Carroll Meadows Golf Course. The fun continues at Elkhorn from
5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Elkhorn. It would be great to take a big group to this event. If you have any questions, see Kenny.
Take advantage of all the fellowship opportunities at FCCM.

The Role of Parents
Expert Insights for Parents of Teenagers
By Rick Lawrence
Reports of decline, not growth, are flying about the American church. But
researchers at Focus on the Family are saying “not so fast” to conventional wisdom.
In a report titled “Millennial Participation and Retention,” they shed some light on
what’s really happening. Only 11 percent of young adults who say they’ve left their
faith report that they “ever had a strong faith as a child.” The other 89 percent say
they “never had a strong faith in the first place.”
“Not surprisingly, homes modeling lukewarm faith do not create enduring faith in
children,” the report notes. “Homes modeling vibrant faith do. So these young adults
are leaving something they never had a good grasp of in the first place. This is not a
crisis of faith, per se, but of parenting.”
The simple translation? Kids who grow up with a weak faith are much more likely to
walk away from it as they get older. The report quotes respected Notre Dame
sociologist Dr. Christian Smith, writing in Souls in Transition: “Religious outcomes
in emerging adulthood…flow quite predictably from formative religious influences
that shape persons’ lives in early years… Religious commitments, practices, and
investments made during childhood and the teenage years, by parents and others in
families and religious communities, matter—they make a difference.”
Here are the takeaways:
 Kids who develop a strong faith as children tend to hang onto it as they grow up.
 Simple church attendance is no indicator of a faith that can weather the storms of
growing up. Parents who are intentional about modeling and seeding a growing
faith in their kids are the key catalysts. Smith says “the most important pastor a
child will ever have in their life is a parent.”

Thought #28: Don’t Take it Personally
There will be times when your children will criticize, mock, and even reject your
best efforts, advice, attempts to connect, or anything else you might do to
make them happy. When that happens, move on. Don’t base your mood, selfworth, or understanding of your parenting skills and effectiveness on how your
kids feel about your or treat you. These words from the writer of Proverbs
deserve our attention at times like these: Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he
will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6) Your role is to consistently
love and encourage your children while looking to Christ as your rock, along
with faithfully and obediently finding your own identity in him and him alone.
