This year let’s promise to spend daily devotional time with God and allow him to
change our lives, instead of making empty promises. We can’t accomplish anything
without Jesus. Let’s commit to knowing Him better in 2015.

Thought #37:Don’t assume that other parents think the way you do
When our children were young, we became involved in a circle of friends in our
community who shared time with us sitting together on the sidelines, at school
functions, and in our daily comings and goings. Those relationships continued
until our children graduated from high school. We made the mistake of
assuming that just because they were our friends, we shared the same
parenting values and standards. There were many matters on which we were
in agreement. So imagine our surprise when we would learn that some of
these friends were more than happy to break the law by opening their homes
as safe places for teenagers to gather and drink, host coed sleepovers, or fail to
provide supervision. Before your children spend time at other people’s homes,
pick up the phone and make a call to ask questions regarding what is ad is not
allowed to happen at those homes, along with who will be present to supervise.
Then, based on that knowledge, make decisions on where and where not your
own kids are allowed to go. Protecting your children from harm and providing
for their well-being might not make you popular, but it is the right thing to do.
Children’s Ministry
Here’s an article that I wanted to share with everyone
that is involved here at First Christian Church of Malvern. The
article below reminded me how amazing our 4th & 5th grade
Sunday school class has been last month. Before I go into
detail, I wanted you to read the article first so that you will
understand what I’m talking about. It’s called, “Finding God in
the Details by Parenting Christian Kid’s newsletter. It reads,
When was the last time you paused to marvel at the
world around you? Every day there are new God Sightings—
reminders of God in our daily lives— just waiting to be discovered. Like the person ahead of you in line who
pays for your order—on a day you could really use the savings. Or the way your kids can put a smile on your
face, even when life has you stressed. You’ll also find God’s fingerprints in the amazing order of the world. Did
you know that worker bees, by the end of their lives, will have traveled a distance nearly equal to flying around
the world three times? (amazingfacts.org) or that the largest mammals on earth, baleen whales, are sustained by
the smallest sea animals such as krill?
There are of millions of incredible things that happen around us every day, all reminders of God’s
presence. When we think in those terms, it’s easy to be reminded that every creature, every moment is infused
with purpose and intention. God’s marvels are so common that it’s easy to lose our sense of wonder and be
distracted by the mundane things in life. Quickly consumed with balancing finances, work, house chores, and
family to-do’s, we can unintentionally overlook God’s presence. We can miss out on daily God Sightings.
Challenge your family to examine the world around you and find at least one thing that’s a reminder of
God, and why, every day. You’ll be refreshed and build on the faith foundation of your entire family as you
discover God in some of the most unexpected places. Your kids will learn to hang onto their sense of wonder
and grow a truly personal relationship with God. You can start with the example of the remarkable bee, or with
an even more incredible God Sighting: the blessings you call family.
“This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by
changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about
God’s wonderful grace.”
—Colossians 1:6
I personally discovered a God sighting through our 4th & 5th grade Sunday school class this last month.
Mary-Lyn Rose has done a fantastic job of challenging this kids to think outside the box and not of themselves.
They wanted to serve others by collecting personal belongings because they wanted to make someone have a
wonderful Christmas like they knew they would have. What’s amazing their parents not only backed their
children’s decision but also started to participate in the giving. Our 4th & 5th grade classroom started to fill up
with many different materials of clothing, toys, a Pack-in-play, shoes and many other items. On December 22nd,
we took 17 preteens to the YWCA where Cathy Jennings works. We wanted them see who their donations
would be helping. I was blown away by how our 4th & 5th graders have a hearts of Gold and are so fired up to
serve our heavenly Father. When was the last time you personally discovered a God Sighting in your
neighborhood?
ABC Food Event
ABC (All Because of Christ) food packaging event is an exciting opportunity for our church that will provide a
meaningful, hands-on project for all ages. You will literally feed thousands of hungry and starving children
through this project!
What are ABC Food Events?
 At ABC food events, participants package a nutritious food that is shipped to Haiti, Kenya, and around the
world where starvation and malnutrition are rampant.
 Participants can package, weigh, seal, and/or box up the finished product to prepare for shipment. Young and
the young-at-heart can work together!
 Participants donate or raise money for each packaging session worked to cover the cost of the food, bags,
boxes, and shipping costs.
Where and when is our local ABC Event?
 Saturday, March 21, 2014 at First Christian Church of Malvern. Time slots are 7:45-10, 9:45-12 and 11:452:00 which includes a 15 minute orientation and 2 hours of packaging.
 Sign-up sheets will be available soon. Suggested donation per participant is $10 per person with an
immediate family max of $20. **
 Our goal again this year is 250 people, $14,250 and 75,000 meals.
**Actual cost is $57 per person. Our Missions Ministry will subsidize the cost
to keep it affordable for all. Checks should be made out to FCCM, designated
to ABC Food and are tax deductible. Participants should attach a sticky note
with your name to the designated check (no names on checks). Missions has
significantly lowered the donation requested per participant this year with the
goal that those who cannot participate will also donate to this worthy cause.
Donation checks can be given in the general offering with ABC Food designated
on the check or your offering envelope.
