reality, strategies are like procedures. They help us
to comprehend better and provide guidance in helping
us to accomplish different tasks with order. Strategies
may help us to:
*Prepare for a test
*Establish goals for after graduation
*Perform better on a job interview
*Develop solutions to problems we may face
*
* Clear your desk of all distractions
* You will need a pencil, highlighter, and your
composition notebook
* Turn to the “NOTES” Section
*Let’s get started!
*Now, that we know what a strategy
is, what is reading comprehension?

The word comprehension means to understand.

Simply means understanding the text that you
read!

P stands for PREVIEW or Popcorn!
Preview the title of your story
Preview any pictures and captions beneath the
pictures

D stands for Double Read or Dum-Dums!
Read your story twice
“Be a Sponge” the first time you read soaking up
as much information as possible
“Talk to your Text” the second time you read by
taking notes in the margin and writing at least one
sentence per paragraph

R stands for Read and Understand or Rainbow!
Read your question only
Understand what the question is asking you before
you answer
Examine them for clues (simplify any unclear
questions)
By understanding your question, you are less likely
to be confused, make assumptions, or second-guess
your answer choice

S stands for Search to Prove or Skittles!
Search your text to prove your answer choice is
correct
“Be a Detective” and search for clues throughout
your story for the answer
Remember, the answer may not be direct so you
will need to Infer, or make an inference

S stands for Select your answer or Slushies!
Select the BEST answer choice
Be aware that there will be at least 1-2
distractors, but choose the BEST answer!
