Homecoming Week was September 22-26. Our themes
were Tacky Day, Monday; Nerd Day, Tuesday; Beach
Bum Day, Wednesday; Cartoon Character Day, Thursday
and Spirit Day, Friday! One of the highlights is voting
for Mr. Gnimocemoh. During Spirit Week every senior
football player who ran for Mr. Gnimocemoh collected
money for votes during lunches. The money was
tallied up, and the winner was announced at the pep
rally. Nick Gregory was voted Mr. Gnimocemoh 2014.
During half-time, all homecoming candidates waited for the
voting results. The 2nd Runner-Up was Haley Bishop, Maid
of Honor was Hannah Blanton, and the 2014 Homecoming
Queen was Destinee Amin!

Spirit Week 2014
Beta Babies Bite Again
Spirit Week at Chesnee High School was from September 22-26.
Students dressed up in the theme of the given day. The themes for each
day included Tacky Day, Nerd Day, Beach Bum Day, Cartoon Day, and
Spirit Day, in that order. The purpose of Spirit Week is to boost the
student’s school spirit in anticipation for the homecoming game.

The Chesnee High School Beta Club initiates of 2014 truly triggered
laughter with their ridiculous costumes this year. There were a few challenging
ideas such as: grapes, cotton candy, and even a fire hydrant. Traditionally, to
conclude the presentation following the torturous walk down Beta road, the
top five most appealing contestants were called back to the stage in order to
reach a verdict. No one ever imagined the day would come when they would
see the likes of Lady Gaga, Shrek, Mermaid Man, and Eric Leudeman on the
same stage at the same time. Despite the competition, no other than Sir Eric
Leudeman himself (Tyman Hamerick), the Beta baby of Hannah Blanton, was
the triumphant winner. The resemblance was hysterical, or as Leudeman would
say, “Historical… boy I wish I had facial hair like that.”

cAREER FAIR KICKS OFF!
Music to YOur Ears
Band
What career path will you choose? The Career Fair at Chesnee High kicked off the year
with its main objective of helping students along their career path. Table displays were
set up by TF Logistics, Army National Guard, Army, Humane Society, Swofford Career
Center, Girl Scouts of America, SEW Eurodrive, Kenneth Shuler, and the Regency Beauty
Institute. If you stopped by the tables and asked engaging questions, you were able to enter
your name into a drawing to recieve a $15 gift card. The winner this time was Ben Cooley,
and he won a $15 Subway gift card...that’s three footlongs! But, of course, that’s only to
grab your attention. Get to know the college and organizations, especially if interested in
what they have to offer! You just might discover something for your future!

CHS Globetrotters
On June 7, 2014, forty students, teachers, and parents boarded a
plane for Europe for a ten day excursion to England and France.
After they landed in London, they took a bus ride to their hotel and
began touring the city fresh off the plane. While in London , they
visited Covent Gardens, Piccadilly Square, and some rode the London
Eye. A few of them were even able to see “Wicked” on the London
stage! After watching the changing of guards
at Buckingham Palace, they then drove to
Canterbury to tour the Canterbury Cathedral
before boarding a ferry in Dover, England,
which crossed the English Channel and headed
for Normandy, France.
Their days in Normandy were spent visiting battlefields
from World War II, the Normandy Museum, and Omaha
Beach. Mrs. McGraw said, “standing on Omaha Beach
in Normandy was especially meaningful to me, and one
of my favorite parts of the trip. My dad landed on Omaha Beach
during World War II on the third day of the D-Day invasion. To stand
where he had been overwhelmed me with respect and gratitude for
all the men and women in World War II who had the courage to scale
those cliffs and protect our freedom.” After leaving Omaha Beach,
with sand in their shoes, they stayed in a beautiful
converted farmhouse before they headed to St. Malo
to tour the city and visit Mont St. Michel. Upon
returning to the farmhouse for a good night’s sleep,
they headed toward Paris the next day!

Everyone was so excited to finally be in “The City of Lights”. All
was quiet and somber on the bus until someone spotted the Eiffel
Tower. The whole bus then seemed to be buzzing and full of energy.
Sadly, they didn’t get to go into the city the first night due to a train
strike, so they were really anxious about the next day. However,
everyone was up bright and early the next day ready to get started.
Their first stop that day was to see nothing
other than the Eiffel Tower! The mood around
them was electric! The last day of the trip was
one of the best days because they visited the
Louvre, Notre Dame, and one of the Love Lock
Bridges, and some even put a lock on it! That
night they boarded a riverboat for a Seine
River tour of Paris, for a glimpse of all the
famous centuries old buildings. The tour ended
with a beautiful Eiffel Tower light show. What
a spectacular way to end a wonderful trip.
Students and teachers who attended included: Mr. Rogers, Coach Baughman, Hannah Blanton, Hayley Brown, Doris Emily Buckley,

See You at the Pole
On the fourh Wednesday in September, millions of students all across the nation participated in See
You at the Pole. On September 24, 2014, Chesnee High School Students gathered around the flagpole
to pray with Mary-Melissa Yelton leading the whole ceremony. Students began the event with singing
praise songs and worshiping together. Mary-Melissa broke students and teachers into groups to pray
for our school, community, and nation. She ended the ceremony with a closing prayer.
PATRIOT’S DAY
Every year on September 11, memorial services are held
around the nation to pay respects to the people who were
killed or injured during the World Trade Center terriorist
attack in 2001. At the beginning
of the ceremony at CHS, cadets
stood in formation while Cadets
Autumn Small and Emily Jolly
spoke. The flag was lowered to
half mast to honor the fallen. To remember the fallen soldiers,
Caleb Conner played Taps on the trumpet. The ceremony
concluded with a prayer led by Sgt. Salas.

volleyball
After having several good seasons, CHS volleyball is hoping for a even better
season. The main goal that they are striving for is a state championship. The
team is practicing and working hard every day, learning to finish first during
big games. This season is full of overcoming obstacles and is becoming like
a family. Sticking together as a team through the ups and downs is another
strong point of Chesnee volleyball. Starting players this
season are Courtney Williamson, Rachel Edge, Nakesa
Moorman, Rebecca Owens, Kenley Reagan, Nina
Ronson, and Morgan Hollifield. The team is performing
together in an effort to make it to state. Coach Cash
states, “All players are keys players in the game; we all
have a part in making things better.”
GO CHS VOLLEYBALL!
Football
Ending last season on a good note,
