Sports News
Sports Uniforms Amnesty
It is that time of the year when students/parents are having clean ups in the bedrooms. If
you find any HHS Sports uniforms, it would be appreciated if you can please return them.
It is very frustrating when we do not have complete sets of uniforms.
Outdoor Bowls Tournament
Jarrod Pettett and Joshua Fox (Pairs) and Georgia Watt (Singles) represented the Taranaki
region in a tournament in Wanganui during the holidays and have qualified to play in the
National Secondary Schools Tournament in Auckland in December. This is a great effort by
these students.
Wrestling
At the National Championships Tadhg McColl was placed second in the U63kg and Sean
McColl second in the U69kg. Well done to these boys.
Athletics
The Athletics season has started in preparation for the New Zealand Secondary School
Championships in December. In the first competition which took place in Hastings on 25
October HHS athletes were led by Aneila Mellish who showed she is coming into form with
a 4th place finish in the 800m run (2:28). Also performing well on the day was Ashleigh
Bennett who threw the shot put 11.58m for second place and Arnold Fage who jumped
12.60m in the triple jump.
At our second meeting in Palmerston North on 8 November the squad really started to
perform to their capabilities. Ashleigh Bennett, recovering from the flu, jumped out to
5.23m in the long jump to take first. Grace White was out to 5.02m and 10.60m in the long
and triple jumps respectively, to be in the top three in both events. Jessica DillonSpringfield produced personal bests in both the 400m (1:02.81) and the 200m (27.90).
Arnold Fage produced an impressive triple jump of 12.80m to place second and Aneila
Mellish continued to improve, dropping 4 seconds off her seasonal best in the 800m, down
to 2:24. Up and coming juniors Austin Fage (1.55m) and Caleb Thomas (1.60m) also
produced personal bests in the high jump.
HHS Tennis Championships
There was a great turn out for the tennis championships held on 17 October, with 38
