This is the second monsoon I have spent in the Lonavala valley. It was indeed tough to function in
the school without children around. But, we had our job cut out: to carry out the maintenance
work well in time to make the classrooms and the dorms ready for occupation. The maintenance
team has done a wonderful job in getting all the dorms and classrooms in immaculate condition.
We have started the House System and the Housemasters and the House mistresses are fast
settling down in their new roles. I am sure the children will cherish the bonding experience with
their respective Houses. The House system is time-tested for instilling leadership and camaraderie
among the members.
I take this opportunity to congratulate our quiz team who have emerged as Zonal winners in the
Financial Quiz conducted by the Reserve Bank of India, and the girls‟ and boys‟ Badminton teams
which emerged as winners and runners up respectively at the „Battledore‟ conducted by
Viswashanti Gurukul school. A good beginning indeed!
I also take this opportunity to welcome the new members of the CVSL family and hope that they
will find the association with the school enjoyable and rewarding .
I wish all the parents and all member in the family a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

It was a ground-breaking experience for the school when over sixty parents stayed over at the
school on the 9th and 10th of August. They attended a workshop on Multiple Intelligence, were
introduced to the elements of the Theory of Knowledge component of the IB program and they
had great fun playing a variety of games. On a more serious note, the parents had sessions with
the career counsellors as well as the student counsellors.

The A Level Course
The A-Levels is an educational course designed by The University of Cambridge. The course lasts
for one and a half years and is equivalent to the 11th and 12th grade of HSC, ISC or any other
Indian or International boards. The course offers three groups. The first one contains Languages,
the second one has Sciences, and the third one has Humanities and Mathematics.
The A-Levels is planned very flexibly. A student has to choose either 4 or 5 subjects. The only
compulsory subject is English as a First Language. The course relieves students of the pressure of
CAS, EE and TOK; it also teaches the subjects in depth and is a really good course if a student has
decided his career option.
A-Levels is a beautifully designed course and students have a challenging, yet enjoyable time
learning and achieving success.

The students are separated into seven groups- Palmer House Boys (4th-IB 1), Savage House Boys
(4th-IB 1), Thomas House Boys (4th-IB 1), Wilson House Boys (4th-IB 1), Girls (4th-IB 1), Girls (IB 2)
and Boys (IB 2).
Every morning, all of the groups get to do different activities. These activities include Yoga,
Cycling, Fitness, Athletics Training, Aerobics, Zumba, Sports / Games etc. There always is
something new to learn. How to use our mind to control our soul through the medium of yoga;
How to build our physique through athletic training, etc.
All in all, the „new‟ morning P.E. routine is a holistic one that combines fun and fitness to make
our minds and bodies ready for the hard work that is to be done during school time.

On the 18th of August 2014, our school had a Havan at the indoor basketball court. The Havan
was conducted to pray for the bountiful blessings of the Lord on our students and faculty
members for the upcoming year. With the blessings of the Lord, we are bound to have a wonderful
year.
With excited new faces and enthusiastic old ones, the court was filled with emotion and devotion.
As the Mantras were being spoken, all the students had their eyes closed and hands joined in
order to pray to Almighty for his support. As the flames rose, I had a warm and tingly feeling
inside my heart. I could actually feel the presence of God inside the court. All of us paid our
respects to „Panditji‟ and he blessed us all with his kindly words.

Mischief ensued as CVSL found its own Krishna incarnates on the 18th of August 2014, with the
boys from every house becoming expert “makhan chors”. The „Dahi Handi‟ competition on the
occasion of Janmasthami was a fun-filled event and was an enjoyable experience for all the
students, whether or not they were participants.
All the participants made a combined effort to break the „handis‟. Aditya Nair, our Head Boy,
put all his energy into making sure that every participant was drenched in water! The event took
place in the Quadrangle during our sports time. Everyone gathered and eagerly awaited the fun.
All of the houses were successful in making a two-tiered pyramid and in breaking the Handis one
after the other!
On this auspicious occasion, the Principal cheered us, while the teachers were there to give us a
helping hand. After loads of excitements, hoots and claps, the event came to an end on an
extremely joyous note.

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared today.”Malcolm X.
On the 21st and 22nd of August the students of grades nine, ten, eleven and twelve had an
opportunity to interact with representatives from various prestigious universities from the U.S.
and U.K. like Binghamton University, Florida University and St Louis University ( U.S) and
Newcastle University, Northumbria University, Plymouth University and University of
Bradford ( U.K.). It was very informative and we learnt about the advantages of education, both
in the U.K as well as in the U.S.
The school‟s effort in providing us with the opportunity to broaden our horizons and shape our
futures is appreciated.

What do you think about the school?
My first days in school were not lonely and I have had a lot of fun. When I talk to my parents, I
spend about ten minutes after which I am always in a hurry to get back to having fun. May be in
a few months time my opinion will change. Boarding and the IB is a totally new experience for
me.
-Shikar Jain.
