This once-ayear event begins Sept. 23 with an 18-hole golf scramble at the Yarrow Golf & Conference Resort, 10499 48th St., in Augusta, Mich. Before teeing off, savor morning coffee, pastry and conversation. The shotgun start will be at 11 a.m. followed by a hot dog lunch at the turn. Prizes will be awarded after all golfers are in. Snacks and cash bar will be provided. The festivities continue Sept. 24 with a luncheon banquet at the beautiful Yarrow Conference Center. Guest speakers will be Rich Ford, Consumers Energy Vice President of Transmission, and Herb Kops, Director of Employee Benefits. The Steve Tucker Duo will entertain. Record Turnout for Burr Oak Golf Scramble The 24th annual Jacksonians Golf Scramble drew a record 72 golfers to Burr Oak Golf Club on Aug. 27, including 17 first-time golfers. Nine retirees and guests joined the group for lunch only. Skies were overcast, a foggy mist was in the air, and the temperature was in the low 70s. Tied for first place with low net (30) were: Team 2 members Tom Heikkinen, Tom Kubiak, Dave Lyons and Ken Rudolph; and Team 4 members Gary Cooper, Ed Hammerle, Don and Ellie James. Sandy Geerling and Don James won for longest drive. Ken Rudolph and Judy Spletzer won for closest to the pin. Help Kids Read, Make Wise Food Choices Energizing Education is looking for mentors to read to and with children in kindergarten through 2nd grade for two half-hour sessions a week. The program was created in 2012 to ensure that all students in Jackson County read at or above grade level by the 4th grade.
