Retreat offers the perfect solution for travellers seeking to blend a
rugged encounter in the pristine Karijini National Park, with the soft
creature comforts that are not traditionally associated with camping.
An outback style licensed alfresco restaurant adds glamorous flair to
a ‘gorgeous’ day of trekking whilst the sunset slowly merges with
an endless blanket of stars that seem to reflect the timelessness of
this place.
Gumala Aboriginal Corporation
The multi award winning Karijini Eco Retreat is
100% owned by the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation. The area is highly important to its traditional
owners, the Banyjima, Innawonga and Nyiyaparli
Aboriginal people - evidence of their occupation
dates back more than 30,000 years. Traditionally,
the Aboriginal people conducted fire stick farming
practices which have shaped the unique nature of
the flora and fauna found in the park today.
A short walk trail leads directly from the Retreat into Joffre Gorge –
stand at the top and you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by this powerful
creation of nature. Over a period of some 2,500 million years, this
country has been sculptured and shaped to the dramatic landscapes
which now form the heart of the Karijini National Park – a labyrinth of
waterfalls and gorges, some of which are so narrow you can reach out
and touch the cool rocks on either side.
