Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon,
or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
1 Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
I.
SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISM 1
A.
Seventh Day Adventism, Christian Science, and Theosophy were all
started by “hysterical, neurotic women” (Wm C. Irvine)
B.
Mrs. Ellen G. White (1827-1915) along with William Miller (17821849) of Low Hampton, NY, founded the Seventh Day Adventist
(SDA) movement.
1.
Miller claimed to be Baptist, but also taught Deism. He claimed
Christ would return in or before 1843, then changed that to July
10, 1844. He was the founder of “Millerism,” and a Freemason.
2.
In 1869, Dr. William Russell, a chief physician in the SDA
Ellen G. White
Sanatorium at Battle Creek wrote that Mrs. White’s visions
were”the result of a diseased organization or condition of brain or nervous system.”
3.
Dr. Fairfield, an Adventist like Dr. Russell,” wrote in 1887 that he had no doubt that her
visions were ‘hysterical trances.’”
4.
Wm. Irvine states that, “we may well pity the poor woman . . . but her teachings amount to
blasphemy and are directly opposed to the Word of God.”
C.
The SDA still believes that Ellen G. White is a woman to follow.
1.
“In fulfillment of the divine plan, the Advent Movement began its prophetic journey toward
the kingdom in the year 1844. . . . certain pioneer leaders saw with increasing clarity that
some kind of government was imperative. . . . Their conviction was greatly strengthened by
messages coming from the pen of Ellen G. White.” 2
2.
“The Gift of Prophecy: One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an
identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen. G.
White . As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of
truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction.” 3
D.
Ellen G. White’s “standard work” is titled The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan.
1.
It contains an authoritative account of SDA teachings, and was published in 1858.
2.
Rev. D. M. Canright, who was intimate with Ellen G. White for many years, states, “She
often copies her subject-matter without credit or sign of quotation from other others. Indeed
. . . The Great Controversy . . . is largely a compilation of Andrew’s History of the Sabbath;
History of the Waldenses, by Wylie, Life of Miller, by White; Thoughts on Revelation, by
Smith and other books.”
3.
The Pastor’s Union of Healdsburg, CA researched and published many instances of
plagiarism in her work.
II.
IRVINE’S INDICTMENT OF SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISM
A.
“Seventh Day Adventism denies the Biblical Doctrine of the Atoning Sacrifice of Christ as the
only means of man’s salvation.”
1.
“The ministration of the priests throughout the year . . . represents the work of ministration
upon which Christ entered at His ascension . . . for eighteen centuries this work continued.
The blood of Christ, pleaded in behalf of penitent believers secured their pardon and
acceptance with the Father, yet their sins still remained upon the books of record.” (Ellen G.
White, Great Controversy)
2.
“Now while our great High Priest is making the final atonement for us, we should seek to
become perfect in Christ “. ( Review & Herald, Nov. 30, 1888; Great C., p. 623 )
B.
‘Seventh Day Adventism declares Satan to be the joint sin-bearer, and the vicarious substitute of
the sinner”
1.
“When Christ, by virtue of His own blood, removes the sins of His people . . . He will place
them upon Satan who in the execution of the judgment must bear the final penalty.” (Great

Controversy)
“Seventh Day Adventists teach that Christ inherited a sinful fallen nature.”
1.
“In His humanity Christ partook of our sinful, fallen nature. If not, then He was not “made
like unto His brethren.” (Bible Readings and Home Circle, 1915, p. 115).
a.
But the Bible says, “Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be
touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we
are, yet without sin.”
“Seventh Day Adventism believes in Soul-sleep after death and Conditional Immortality”
1.
“The theory of eternal punishment is one of the false doctrines . . .” (Ellen G. White)
“Seventh Day Adventism tries to force the believer back under Law and so away from Grace, by
their Sabbath teachings.”
1.
Ellen G. White writes of her ‘vision’ that, “Jesus raised the cover of the ark, and [I] beheld
the tables of stone on which the Ten Commandments were written. [I] was amazed as [I]
saw the Fourth Commandment in the very centre of the ten precepts, with a soft halo of light
encircling it.”
2.
Historically, the “church fathers” denounced what the SDA teaches (that you must worship
on Saturday).
a.
The Epistle of Barnabas (100 A.D.) – “ . . . we keep the eighth day with joyfulness,
the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead.”
b.
The Writings of Justin Martyr (145 A.D.) – “And on the day called Sunday all who
live in cities or in the country gather together in one place . . . because it is the First
day of the Week on which God . . . made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on
the same day rose from the dead.”
III.
WHY NOT THE SABBATH DAY FOR CHURCH?
A.
The Sabbath was a sign of God’s covenant with Israel, not the Gentiles (Ex 31:16)
B.
The Sabbath was a law which was to be punished by death when broken (Ex 31:14-15)
C.
The New Testament always shows the saints gathering on Sunday
1.
Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break
bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech
until midnight.
2.
1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God
hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
IV.
OTHER PECULIAR SDA BELIEFS
A.
Satan repented – “After Satan was shut out of heaven, with those who fell with him, he realized
that he had lost all the purity and glory of heaven forever. Then he repented and wished to be
reinstated in heaven.” (Spiritual Gifts, Vol 1, pp. 18-19)
B.
The Plan of Salvation came after the fall –
1.
“Sorrow filled heaven, as it was realized that man was lost, and the world that God created was to be filled with
mortals doomed to misery, sickness and death, and there was, no way of escape for the offender. The whole
family of Adam must die. I saw the lovely Jesus , and beheld an expression of sympathy and sorrow upon his
countenance. Soon I saw him approach the exceeding bright light which enshrouded the Father. Said my
accompanying angel," He is in close converse with the Father". The anxiety of the angels seemed to be intense
while Jesus was communing with his Father. Three times he was shut in by the glorious light about the Father,
and the third time he came from the Father, his person could be seen. His countenance was calm, free of all
perplexity and trouble, and shone with benevolence and loveliness, such as words cannot express. He then made
known to the angelic host that a way of escape had been made for lost man. He told them that he had been
pleading with his Father, and had offered to give his life a ransom, and take the sentence of death upon himself,
and through him man might find pardon. " (Ellen G. White, GC, ch. 3) (see Rev 13:8 for the truth)

G.
Slaves could not be saved – “"God cannot take the slave to heaven. He lets him be as though he
had not been." (Great Controversy, page 193.)
Christ only died to give man a second chance to obey – “"Christ gave his life that man should have
another trial, he did not die on the cross to abolish the law of God, but to secure for man a second
probation" (Testimonies to Ministers, 134)
Man can achieve sinless perfection – “"Everyone who surrenders fully to God is given the
privilege of living without sin." (EGW)
All sickness is the result of sin – “". . .all sickness is the result of transgression” (EGW)
Christ is not God Almighty – “"The man Christ Jesus was not the Lord God Almighty” (SDA
