About MyEggBank (MEB)
In the mid-1990s, Reproductive Biology Associates recognized the
potential clinical advantages that oocyte cryopreservation could
bring to patients requiring the use of donated eggs. RBA’s initial
egg freezing success came in 1997, when the practice reported the
first births in the Western Hemisphere from frozen donor eggs. In
2000, after further refinement of the technique, RBA began to
•
offer egg freezing as a means of preserving fertility in cancer
patients facing fertility-threatening oncology treatment. In 2007,
the RBA scientific team achieved its most important egg freezing
breakthrough to date based on scientific research initiated in 2004
•
to explore an alternative way of cryopreservation called
“vitrification.”
Utilizing this new rapid freezing technique with egg donors
between ages 21 to 30, RBA achieved pregnancy rates equal to
fresh donor cycles in traditional IVF centers around the world. As
it was reported in Fertility and Sterility in 2008 (Nagy et al, FS,
2008), 17 of the 20 recipients achieved live birth using vitrified
donor eggs. Later that same year, RBA created one of the world’s
first independent, fully inventoried frozen donor egg banks. Based
on the success of its own egg bank, in 2010 RBA established My
Egg Bank-North America (MEB-NA), a network of high-quality
infertility centers providing frozen donor egg bank services to
patients across the United States and Canada.
qualified egg donors. RBA Egg Bank donors enter our
program immediately, completely bypassing the standard 6-9
month wait related to the conventional donor/recipient
matching process. This allows RBA to reimburse our donors
for their time and effort quickly and efficiently. Since we are
not required to coordinate donor and recipient menstrual
cycles, our donors are able to work the donation process
around their personal schedules.
The RBA Egg Bank data base allows recipients to control the
selection of their donor. Conventional egg donation
programs bring recipients potential donors that “they” feel
best match a recipient’s needs.
By using frozen eggs, patients can limit the number of frozen
embryos remaining after treatment is complete, thereby
eliminating ethical concerns regarding disposition of
embryos.

MyEggBank Guarantee
My Egg Bank (MEB) now offers a guarantee to its affiliate clinics to
ensure survival of vitrified oocytes. The guarantee ensures that at
least 3 oocytes survive the thaw, and that at least 1 - 6 cell, day 3
embryo is available. Failure to achieve either one of these criteria
will prompt a review by the MEB lab committee. Recipients of
poor donor oocytes may choose another donor should the review
committee rule that the vitrified oocytes were suboptimal.
