April 11, 12 & 13- 2014 Dan James Clinic Participation Information ABOUT DAN JAMES Dan is a highly recognized international Liberty trainer and performer. A native of Australia, Dan has been a partner in Double Dan Horsemanship with fellow Aussie Dan Steers since 2009. They have performed at every major show and rodeo in Australia to date. In 2012, Dan used his incredible training techniques to win the coveted Road to the Horse International Colt Starting World Champion title. Dan continues to push the limits of horsemanship and entertainment with eye-opening clinics and exhilarating performances! CLINIC DESCRIPTIONS Dan is seeking a variety of riders and horses to participate in his various one-hour Liberty clinics. He requests video of a maximum of 5 minutes demonstrating skills as listed for each clinic. Clinic #1: Fundamentals to Riding Bridleless and Bareback • Learn the fundamentals to bridleless and bareback riding to develop a trusting and willing partner. This foundation of trust and respect is essential to safely perform freestyle routines and build a lasting partnership with your horse. • For this clinic, Dan is looking for experienced riders, and trained horses that are also quiet riding horses. For the video requirement, please demonstrate all gaits and maneuvers the horse is capable of doing. Cost: $150 Clinic #2: Teaching the Rear, Spanish Walk and the Stop (2 part- 2 session clinic) • Learn the techniques and ques Dan uses in his remarkable liberty performances. Dan shares his knowledge in teaching the Spanish Walk, rearing on que and stopping at liberty. • For this clinic horses need to be well mannered and trained in ground control (preferably exposed to Double Dan Horsemanship ground control methods). For the video requirement, please demonstrate with horse in hand (not ridden). Demonstrate all maneuvers the horse is capable of; such as backing up, lunging and leading. Cost: $175 Clinic #3: Teaching the Skills of Ponying • Learn how to safely gain respect and control of a horse on lead while mounted on another horse. This clinic utilizes lessons from Double Dan Horsemanship Ground Control level 3. • For this clinic, a person with two horses is required. One horse is to be ridden, the other on lead. The ridden horse should be trained and confident. For the video requirement, horses should be shown separately. Using the horse that you would like to ride, demonstrate all gaits and maneuvers the horse is capable of doing. The lead horse can be shown in hand. Cost: $195 (For this clinic only, 2 stalls and 2 admission passes included) Clinic #4: Long Reining & Lungie Bungie Fundamentals • Learn how to achieve softness and respect from the ground with your horse. Acquire valuable training techniques for starting young horses and re-educating older ones, allowing you to teach flexibility, control and overcome behavioral issues in a safe controlled manner for you and your horse. • For the video requirement, please demonstrate with horse in hand (not ridden). Demonstrate all maneuvers the horse is capable of; such as backing up, lunging and leading. The fee includes one stall and one 3-day horse exhibitor wristband. The entry fee will be charged regardless of any other participation at the event. If participating with the same horse in any other clinic or area, the stall and weekend admission will not be included. Duration of each clinic may vary. IMPORTANT INFORMATION § § § § § § § § § Horses must arrive on Thursday, April 10, 2014 between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm. Horses must stay on the grounds until 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Selected participants will be notified by the end of the day February 14, 2014. Once accepted, you will be given a limited amount of time to confirm your participation and pay the fee. Additional forms and information will be sent by March 14, 2014. Clinics will be conducted in areas where there are likely to be large crowds. Opportunities to warm up in the actual arena may not be available. Please do not apply if you and/or your horse cannot function in such a setting. All participants must adhere to the Midwest Horse Fair Code of Conduct. Clinics are subject to change at the discretion of event management. It is the policy of the Midwest Horse Fair that if you are a part of multiple events and have a scheduling conflict due to participation in another competition or presentation, it is your responsibility to choose which event you will attend. Special accommodations will not be made. In the unlikely event that a clinician is unable to conduct their clinics as scheduled because of an unavoidable event (such as illness, accident, flight cancellation, death in family, etc.), MHF will make every effort to retain another clinician of similar caliber to conduct clinics on the same topics as scheduled and clinic riders will not be given any refund of clinic fees. If for any reason, a suitable replacement cannot be retained and a clinic must be cancelled, participants will receive a refund of clinic fees. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS All equine animals entering the grounds for MHF must have the documentation listed below. The original and a copy are required for each horse entering the grounds. § Original and a copy of the laboratory report of a negative equine infectious anemia (EIA) test conducted after January 1, 2014 which clearly identifies the equine animal by registration number, lip tattoo, or a complete description of the equine animal. § Original and a copy of the certificate of veterinary inspection issued within 30 days of MHF (after March 11, 2014) if you are coming from another state. www.MidwestHorseFair.com Midwest Horse Fair® is owned by the Wisconsin Horse Council © 2013-Midwest Horse Fair
