Zinc-iron - MacDermid Industrial Solutions

TriPass ELV 5500
Black Hexavalent-Free
Passivation For Zinc-Iron
TriPass ELV - The #1 Trivalent
Passivation Systems. Worldwide.
MacDermid TriPass ELV passivates are approved by
major global automotive manufacturers. Designed to
meet the requirements of directives such as ELV, REACH,
RoHS and WEEE, they enhance the corrosion resistance
of zinc-iron by providing a barrier coating.
TriPass ELV 5500 represents the lastest in passivation
technology. Designed for Enviralloy FE, it provides an
attractive, homogenous black passivate film which
gives excellent corrosion resistance even after heat
treatment. Thick enough to give high corrosion
and scratch resistance, thin enough that the finest
dimensional tolerance is not compromised.
So, where your finishing requirement is for hexavalent
chromium-free black passivates which offer high
corrosion and scratch resistance, count on MacDermid.
Key Features
• Trivalent chromium black passivate for Enviralloy zinc-iron
• High pH solution - prolongs solution life
• Excellent corrosion resistance, even after thermal shock
• Meets ELV, REACH, ROHS and WEEE Directives
• Solution operates at low temperature
TriPass ELV 5500
Black Hexavalent-Free Passivation For Zinc-Iron
Engineers choose surface coatings based on five key elements:
Corrosion resistance, dimensional tolerance, friction properties*,
global availability and environmental compatibility.
* Where applicable
TriPass ELV 5500 Designed To Meet All These Demanding Criteria.
TriPass ELV 5500 is a complete system. Enviralloy zinc-iron is recommended to provide the optimum sacrificial coating.
After passivation with TriPass ELV 5500, TriDip post dip is applied. For ultimate in appearance and corrosion protection
a topcoat is recommended. For fasteners, Torque 'N' Tension dry film lubricant, for non lubricated parts, HydroKlad dry to
touch coatings.
Corrosion Resistance – This graph demonstrates the
superior resistance to first white corrosion, even after
extended thermal shock test. This means that TriPass ELV
5500 meets current automotive specifications.
Dimensional Tolerance – Typically only 8µm metal
thickness is required.
Friction Properties – Where friction control is required,
an engineer can choose from our extensive range of
Torque 'N' Tension control fluids.
Environmental Compatibility – TriPass ELV 5500
delivers black passivate films free of hexavalent chromium.
Global Availability – MacDermid’s range of anti-corrosion
coatings are available in all the major manufacturing markets
around the world.
It takes more than innovative, high performance products
and superior technical service to help our customers
compete and win in today's global marketplace. It takes
a total commitment to understanding their needs
and the ability to provide the right solutions—every time.
When success is your only goal, trust MacDermid.
