Equivalency of Training Program
Out-of-State, Federal, or Previously Certified Florida Officers
Thank you for your interest in obtaining your Florida certification as a correctional officer. The Equivalency of
Training Program (EOT) process enables one to become exempt from having to complete the Florida Basic
Recruit Training Program. It is for out-of-state officers, federal officers, and previously certified Florida officers.
You may be eligible for this program if you meet the following requirements:



You worked at least one year, full-time, as a sworn correctional officer and;
You received training as a correctional officer which is comparable to Florida’s curriculum or;
You were previously certified in Florida but have a four (4) year break in service.
Step 1: Complete the application process for the EOT Program:




Obtain an application from Criminal Justice Selection Center, such as Indian River State College
(IRSC), to determine eligibility;
Complete the EOT Application;
Gather the supporting documentation listed in the EOT Application;
Submit copies of the above to the Criminal Justice Selection Center you have chosen.
Step 2: Enroll and Pass EOT High Liability Proficiency Evaluation:

If you are deemed eligible, you will be issued a form CJSTC 76 authorizing you to enroll in an EOT
course at any Florida Criminal Justice Training Center, such as IRSC, to demonstrate proficiency in the
high liabilities.
Step 3: Pass the State Officer Certification Exam (SOCE):

The EOT course at IRSC includes an 8-hour review which is simply a batter of Basic Recruit written
examinations. It is recommended that you prepare in advance by studying the BRTP Guide for
Correction and High Liability Text. These e-Books can be downloaded at no cost from the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement’s Curriculum webpage.
Step 4: Obtain Employment:

Obtain employment in a sworn position with a criminal justice agency that will complete and activate
your certification.
