To register for any course listed below: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PDAFall2014 DATES POINTS Introduction to Differentiated Instruction - An introduction to the basic guidelines of October 6 – January 5 20 October 6 – January 5 20 differentiation: an observable, classroom level practice using assessment information to make data-based decisions. Technology for Student Success: Introduction - Designed to assist in identifying the components of assistive and instructional tech, Universal Design for Learning, and accessible instructional materials. Technology for Student Success: Assistive Technology - Participants identify and explore AT devices and services and examine the process of selecting, obtaining, and using AT. Explores basic information about the impact of disability areas including: vision, auditory, physical, communication, intellectual, and cognitive processing and how AT devices and services can help. Differentiated Instruction for Mathematics - Participants will learn and apply the differentiation guidelines to mathematics instruction to increase student achievement. Participants will develop skills for differentiating mathematics instruction by using continuous assessment to plan and deliver effective whole-group, small-group and individualized instruction in order to be responsive to student needs. Foundations of Exceptional Education - An inservice credit course frequently used to prepare for the ESE certification test. Content builds an understanding of the different types of programs and services that make up ESE, the history of how they came to exist, and landmark legislation. DOES NOT COUNT FOR SB 1108. A non-inservice credit option to access the material can be accessed at any time at http://www.pda-ese.org/pilot/ October 6 – January 5 20 October 6 – January 5 30 October 6 – January 5 60 Instructional Practices – Participants will learn to develop, increase and demonstrate knowledge about selecting instructional practices which incorporate specific strategies and specialized materials to meet learner needs. Participants will also learn about analyzing educational activities to assist in the development and implementation of accommodations and modifications that allow students with disabilities to participate in the general curriculum in a meaningful way. Course content includes effective methods of communication, consultation, and collaboration with other educators, related services professionals and with families. Language and Communication - Provides an understanding of the evolution of speech/language services, connection between language and literacy, components of language, stages of language development, and assistive communication. Includes strategies and techniques for enhancing student achievement. Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) - This module will provide knowledge of how to assess, design, and implement positive behavior supports. The content for the Positive Behavior Support module of the PDA program was developed in conjunction with the University of South Florida's (PBS) Project. October 6 – January 5 60 October 6 – January 5 60 October 6 – January 5 60 October 6 – February 9 60 Differentiating Reading Instruction (satisfies Reading Competency 4 of the revised Florida reading endorsement) - Using differentiated instruction, learn ways to make instruction more explicit to achieve results for students with reading difficulties. Appropriate for those pursuing endorsement, and those who simply want more methods/techniques/ideas for working with struggling readers! DOES NOT COUNT FOR SB 1108. PDA online facilitated modules provide comprehensive, high quality, accessible professional development for Florida educators wanting to improve skills in meeting needs of all students.
