Fall 2014 Membership Application
Engineering Student Council (ESC) is the official student government of UC Irvine’s Henry Samueli School of
Engineering. ESC is dedicated to promoting interactions between engineering students, faculty, staff, alumni,
and the industry. We provide a network of support for engineering students through programs and events that
promote student leadership, networking skills, social development, and project management.
How to Apply__________________________________________________________________
• Complete this application and submit it to the ESC drop box in front of the ESC Room (REC 113) by
Friday, October 17, 2014 at 5:00 PM. Note: The application deadline for freshmen is Friday, October 24,
2014 at 5:00 PM.
• Attach a copy of your fall schedule to your application. Include courses, research, work, and other
extracurricular involvements.
• Sign up for an interview when you turn in your application. Freshmen should NOT sign up for an
interview.
• Keep this cover sheet for information about the ESC cabinet application process and to remind you of
your interview time.

Interviews will be held during Week 3 of fall quarter in the ESC Room (REC 113). Please sign up for the earliest
possible interview on the sign-up sheet next to the application drop box.

All members of the Engineering Student Council (ESC) will be a part of one of the following committees:
• Activities Committee
• Community Outreach Committee
• Corporate Affairs Committee
• Public Relations Committee
• Service Committee
• Freshmen Committee*
*First-year students may only apply to be in the freshmen committee, and should NOT sign up for an interview.
Applications for the Freshmen Committee are due by Friday, October 24, 2014 at 5:00 PM.
Notification of Decision_____________________________________________________
Applicants will be notified of their application status via email by Monday, October 27, 2014.
Requirements__________________________________________________________________
Annual membership dues of $40 are required for all members. These membership dues are used to fund a
variety of events throughout the year, and cover the cost of your ESC shirt. All members must complete 3 hours
of community service per quarter. There are plenty of opportunities to complete this requirement, and
members will be notified of all opportunities.

Committee Descriptions
Activities Committee
Plans ESC and inter-organization social events and
fundraisers such as the Student-Faculty softball
game, Battle of the Engineering Student
Organizations, and National Engineer’s Week
competitions.
Public Relations Committee
Publicizes ESC’s events to the engineering
community through class announcements, posters,
flyers, and other promotional materials such as the
E-Week Booklet.
Community Outreach Committee
Reaches out to K-12 students to teach them about
engineering and higher education. Plans engineeringbased activities for high school visits and High School
Shadow Day.
Service Committee
Promotes networking between students and faculty
members through events such as the Dean’s
Welcome Back Picnic, Dean’s Breakfast, and E-Week
Awards Banquet.
Corporate Affairs Committee
Plans industrial networking and recruiting events
including information sessions, resume workshops,
industry tours, and the annual EngiTECH Career Fair.
Freshmen Committee
All freshmen who are accepted will be placed into
this committee, where they will work with the rest
of ESC to get a glimpse of what each committee
does. Freshmen must submit a completed
application before 5pm on Friday, Oct. 24th, but
DO NOT need to sign up for an interview.
