Orkney Early Years Collaborative Up-Date Report May 2014 Ambition of the Early Years Collaborative: ‘To make Scotland the best place in the world to grow up in by improving outcomes and reducing inequalities, for all babies, children, mothers, fathers and families across Scotland to ensure that all children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed’ Orkney currently has five different workstreams, each of which has a workstream lead committed to driving forward the improvement methodology. 1. Orkney EYC includes anyone who has an interest in supporting children in Orkney. It can include parents, childcare staff, teachers, health professionals, social workers, housing, police, third sector and anyone who works with or for children and the early years agenda. 1 year to 30 months 85% of all children within each CPP have reached all of the expected developmental milestones at the time of the child’s 27-30 month child health review by end-2016 3. 30 months to start 90% of all children of primary school within each CPP reach expected developmental milestones at the time the child starts primary school by end 2017 Primary 1 – Waiting Information Primary 3 Leadership Timely delivery of all three work stream “stretch aims” It's the world's first national multi-agency quality improvement programme. Since January 2013 there have been four national learning sessions covering things like: Early support for pregnancy and beyond Attachment and child development Continuity of care in transitions 27-30 month review Developing parents’ skills Family engagement to support learning Addressing child poverty Orkney has been represented at every session and those attending have come home enthused, sharing good ideas to test out with colleagues here at home. National Stretch Aim 1 To ensure that women experience positive pregnancies which result in the birth of more healthy babies as evidenced by a reduction of 15% in the rates of: Stillbirths & Infant mortality 2. The Early Years Collaborative was established nationally in 2013 and is a coalition of Community Planning Partners - including social services, health, education, police and third sector professionals committed to ensuring that every baby, child, mother, father and family in Scotland has access to the best supports available. Workstream Conception to year 4. 5. Each work stream has a local lead whose role is to support and give guidance to the Orkney EYC. The local team meets approximately monthly to update on local progress in improving services.
