seniors in retirement, long term care and Adult
Day Centre settings, including the Alzheimers’
Society.
Nathan will be working in the role of an ADS
Assistant on a part time basis. He will be facilitating a variety of recreation programs that meet
the needs of our clients on a daily basis. Nathan
is very enthusiastic and energetic! He is a great addition to our team.
Sanya Chawla, RN

clients by monitoring their daily health needs
and providing recommendations and referrals

Program absences and vacation
In March, all ADS clients and caregivers were mailed a notice of the new program absence policy. Starting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 all Adult Day Services
Program (ADS) clients will be charged for all of the days they are registered in
the program – even when they do not attend. Community Support Services’ current policy for the ADS program is to charge the daily fee for an absence, unless
the client or family tells us 24-hours before. However, we have generally not
charged clients who have not met the advance notice requirement.
To be consistent with other ADS programs funded by the Central West and Mississauga-Halton Local Health Integration Networks in our area, the Region of
Peel, Long Term Care Division is updating or formalizing its policies in a number
of areas –including absences.
For your information please note that effective April 1st:
• You will be charged for all of the days you are registered in the program.
• You will be charged for days that you are absent because of illness, personal
appointments or vacation.
• You will not be charged for absences that are caused by a transportation cancellation and/or program closure.
• If you advise us two days before you are going to be absent because of any
kind of personal appointment, you can make-up that day, within the week, if
space is available.
• If you are absent from your ADS program for up-to four consecutive weeks for
vacation or for medical leave, the program will hold your space.
• After a four-week absence from the program, for vacation or medical leave,
you will be discharged from the program. However, you will have priority on the
waitlist to return to the program.
If you have any questions about this new practice, please speak directly with the
ADS Supervisor, at 905 791-1179 x 7369.

Accreditation Awarded to Region of Peel Long Term Care
Centres and Adult Day Centres by CARF
On March 20th, 2014 were we advised that the Commission
for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has
awarded all of the Region Long Term Care Centres and the
co-located Adult Day Services program operated by the
Community Support Services team its international
accreditation for the next three years.
The accreditation process represents a very significant effort on the part of
our staff, as well as the engagement of our volunteers, residents and clients of the adult day program.
Thank you again to the Malton Village team - staff, clients, families, and
volunteers - who worked together to make this Accreditation a HUGE
success.

SNAPSHOTS
~ Celebrating Black History month
In the month of February we celebrated Black history month. The clients
explored the culture and discussed many famous African Americans in history such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and Bob Marley. We enjoyed a
recipe picked and prepped by the Adult Day Service clients at Malton Village to recognize a variety of Caribbean cultures and cooking techniques.
The clients had a great time chopping up the vegetables and giving their
feedback on how they cooked back home. Everyone enjoyed eating curry
chicken with rice and plantain, as well the rest of the day’s festivities with
Caribbean trivia, travelogue and listening to classic Island music
